Default Given a Choice...

Given a choice, would you want there to be a God in the biblical sense?

No ... the biblical God is too fickle ... one day he is loving, the next day throwing plagues at you ... too bi-polar for my tastes. Picks and chooses randomly who he will heal ...

As long as I get into heaven I'd be ok with it.

To be honest with you, I would have prefered it if Adam and Eve never ate from that dreadful tree, lol. But if it wasn't them it would have been someone else.

Spoken like a true believer in the western god. The western god is a god of Exile. He is the guardian at the gates to the garden of eden. He is a representation of our fears and desires.

The exile even extends to this where people don't understand that it refers to powers within them. "it would have been someone else......" Adam means MANKIND and CONSCIOUSNESS.... It doesn't mean an individual person named adam.

The irony of the original question is that the western god exists as a product of choice and will of the human race. That's what the metaphor of eden speaks to. Our ability to discern the illusions of good and evil. The ability to make choices about our lives. The relevance of birth and death.

And the guardians to the gates of eden are placed there by the god of the west. Eventually, some people get it, and humanity is moving in the right direction. It's like the movie Fight Club where, at the end, the hero realized that he was holding the gun and the forces that were opressing him were within him.

The first post should be something like: "Given a choice, God exists."

Og I agree life is an illusion, "matter" is a collection of our perceptions.
But that does not mean it isn't real and it does not mean we do not have choices, neither does it mean there is no difference between good and evil.

I think I'd rather there not be God in the biblical sense. Like someone else said, he's too fickle. Plus, I already had one set of parents, I don't need another Father that I am supposed to live up to and answer to for eternity.

Hmm very good food for thought in this thread.

I guess you're all right. The Christian God is pretty fickle and seems like he'd be a tough one to please.

So what about other gods and deities? Buddah? Allah? Zeus?
