| Keyword here being "some".
Fortunately not everyone thinks that way and it appears to be limited to religious bible belt americans who believe "God and Country" is all one word.

| It depends what you mean by patriotic. Here are two possible conflicting definitions of a patriot:
1. a person who loves, supports, and defends his or her country and its interests with devotion.
2. a person who regards himself or herself as a defender, esp. of individual rights, against presumed interference by the federal government.
When you do not support your country when they infringe on individual rights are you unpatriotic?

| Its the whole issue of how some people consider any disagreement with the government unpatriotic. Its usually right wing nut jobs who claim people who disagree with Bush "hate America" and what not. They say that about Michael Moore a lot - just as an example.
So then these same people associate the country with god, with all the "In God we trust" symbolism, and so anyone who is atheist or agnostic is quickly labeled as someone who "hates god" and therefore "hates America"
its just simple minded |
