I never married or had kids but no way would I ever force religion on them (or anybody else for that matter)
But kids ask questions so my advice would be to give them short simple one-line answers, eg -
Q - "Is there a God"
A - "Jesus said there is"

Q - "But why should we believe him?"
A - "Because God was his dad"

Q - "Was he a phoney?"
A - "He did lots of mind-blowing miracles and stuff"

Q - "But does that mean he's the Son of God?"
A - "Why would he lie?"

Q - "Perhaps he lied to become rich and famous?"
A - "Saying he was the son of God got him the death penalty, not fame and fortune"

Q - "Did he really exist?"
A - "The whole nation of Israel and the occupying Roman army saw him"

Or you could ask your children: 'Well, what do YOU believe?' and really LISTEN to their answers...it could be enlightening

gives a whole new meaning to 'from the mouths of babes'...

Or you could ask your children, (** SANS parental or sunday school brainwashing**), 'Well, what do YOU believe?'...

I could never force a religion on a child, either. I was raised Presbyterian, and my mother explained to me that it was so I would learn about that religion as well as a few others (I was lucky and had an open congregation that discussed others' beliefs). When I was old enough, I could decide whether or not I wanted to adhere to that belief system. I envision doing the same thing myself when I have kids of my own.

I'd recommend getting them a telescope or something and getting interested in science

Not really much to the theory of "not knowing" as agnosticism espouses. The point is that you're willing to admit not knowing and then you're free to seek truth instead of being burdened by an idol that shuts you off to life (i.e. a God).

Science is the lifestyle and mental process that really integrates these ideas.
