I have a theory (not in the scientific sense).

Perhaps evolution intended it that way - that some seek answers, and others keep busy "reproducing". In this way, both objectives - survival and "improvement" - are advanced.

Deb:

I pretty much don't like any emo band except saves the day. However, in my ignorant youth, I'm ashamed to say I bought the first Hawthorne Heights album. Probably one of the worst mistakes of my life. I did have a sweet shirt of theirs though, which I wish I still had..That shirt was awesome..

I say this because either way needs focus and choosing a path sacrifices the other. Of course, you can be somewhere in between but the "time factor" plays a big part in the equation.

I'm sure you (viewers) can "fill-in" the gaps in my argument. I'm trying to avoid a lengthy discussion

I don't think that if you're someone 'kept busy reproducing' that somewhere along the line you chose to sacrifice your desire to learn and to grow. I'm more inclined to go with og when he says it has to do with nature vs. nurture.

I think everyone has a desire to question, and a need for an answer, but I think some people pursue it more than others. It's all got to be related to a person's individual experience.

You do not "sacrifice" your desire, you sacrifice your "time" for that desire.
As Og said: nature "VS" nurture

You just reinforced my point. Thanks.

Maybe I should argue further...remember, this is just a hypothesis which somebody else may be able to prove/disprove later on:

I am not drawing a line between "reproducers" and "improvers", that's why i said there are "in-betweens". But we cannot deny that extremists exists! As you said, that may be circumstantial or maybe experiential.

My point is, evolution produces "brains" and psyches more inclined on one objective than the other. Individual and collective experience, of course, is part of the evolutionary process. We "don't know" how exactly this process works but we (most of us, at least) believes that it is in its way to "evolving and adapting". Hence, we need "qualities" and "quantities". Each and everyone helps in contributing with varying degrees on the left and right hand of the scale, I believe. Nature chooses. The "desire" may be an evolutionary imprint on the brain making one more susceptible to "pursuing improvement" than "pursuing survival" and vice versa.
