If you look back in history hate was much more prominent until some pussies began creating laws to try and control it, I mean it's in our nature as humans to eventually destroy ourselves, and I do have faith, this century will most likely be our last I just don't see why some people had to go postpone the inevitable. | What makes you think this century will be our last? How is it in our nature to eventually destroy ourselves? I think it's in our nature to perserve ourselves. Sometimes that means destroying others, but not always. And we are not as bad as we used to be. Do you begrudge humanity for fighting to survive and not dying out?

| How does that make any sense? What exactly are you? Do you belive in ID? Because if you don't subscribe to that, you know one of the basic principles of evolution is survival of a species is their first and foremost concern. Survival of the fittest? How is it a species nature to destroy itself?

| Seeing as how most people aren't all that smart do I really need to explain to you why I believe what I believe? |

| And it's not really a matter of belief anyway. Evolution is an observable phenomonon, not just a bunch of ideas sitting around like many creationists seem to think.

| If you didn't have to explain why you believe what you believe Maximus, I wouldn't have asked. I can think of a couple of different explanations, and maybe not a single one of them is your line of reasoning. Not everyone sees things the exact same as you, or desires to. Hence, a need to explain. For example, I do not think most people are stupid.

And what provides that restraint?
I agree with the love hate concept. The two feelings most definately govern our emotions and are indeed, at times, hard to separate.
Indifference is the balancing point between the two. It's a good place to be in the hate department. When it comes to love, though, it can be crippling to a pontentially good relationship.
What emotion governs our actions? Fear. Fear of consequence, wether rational or irrational. We don't act on the the day to day anger that we feel because we know what may happen if we do. We don't persue every feeling of love because we know how embarrassing and emotionally damaging it can be.
So, in my opinion, fear is the strongest emotion. It's what drives us and keeps us alive.

| I think it's fear and desire. If it was only fear than we would be too scared to do anything. But our fear of what if and our desire for what if simultaneously push us to exist, and flourish if we're good enough.

| Emotions are tools for preservation of the being in the environment they are placed. Fear is about survival, desire is inspired by power and control to assuade the fear... fear being the loss of control. I don't quite get the what if in your statement lauraclay. I think the means of control is to be rid of the what if's in reality... I say good luck with that.
