Default Feeling guilty...

I feel kinda guilty for not believing in god, like I let my family down and the whole knowing that there is no god, nothing else is depressing. Is this normal? How do I deal with it?

I think because there's a stigma that goes along with not being in the norm. And since you said your family is religious, I'm sure they've made you feel a bit like you let them down which can make you feel guilty as if you've done something wrong. But you haven't, you've found your own path and you have to accept that your family may never accept it. Just be happy with who you are and hopefully one day they will be too.

I agree with GloryB about a stigma being attached to "not believing" sort of a way of guilting people who are on the fence more or less into staying with God or to make those of us who choose not to live that life feel like freaks or something. At least that has been my personal experience with how I have been treated. Bottom line your feelings are just that your feelings and you shouldn't feel guilty for how you feel as long as you are honest with yourself cause if you don't make yourself happy you can't make anyone else happy either.

Looks kind of like the end result of good old fashioned religious oppression. Being made to feel different or an outsider because you're not a believer.

It's human nature.

Before I became a Christian I went through what you are going through too. You just have to take solace in the fact that you are following what you truly believe.

Nanners

Firstly, you dont KNOW there is no god.
You BELIEVE there is not.

Secondly, your decision to not believe as your family believes.
Is not your problem. It is your right.
Are you 'owned' by them.
Not an individual thinking being, but a slave.?
No.

If they argue with you, just ask that question..
'am i your slave'? 'no' they will say ..your reply
'then give me the right of any free thinking person, to decide
on my own what i believe to be true'
The bible speaks of free will, but does not like it when it shows up.
