MODERATOR: PLEASE READ BEFORE DELETING...

I guess this ammounts to advertisement BUT I am not getting paid for it AND it is a FREE product.

I have been investigating something for the past few weeks and I came to the conclusion that you guys would want to know about it.

I don't know about you, but I need Office Applications for personal, college, and business use. The full feature MS Office Suite can cost over $500 dollars. That is not an option for most of us.

"Open Office" is a suite of applications COMPLETELY FREE from the Open Source Community of Developers and Sun Microsystems. It contains:

* WRITE: A full feature word processor which can create, save and open documents for up to MS OFFICE XP.

* CALCULATE: A full feature Spread Sheet application that can create, save and open documents for up to MS OFFICE XP.

* IMPRESS: A full feature Presentation\Slide Show maker which can create, save, and open presentations for up to MS OFFICE XP.

* DRAW: A full feature graphic arts program for making buisness cards, flyers, cards, really anything your imagination allows.

* DATABASE: A full feature database program that allows relational tables. It is useful for keeping track of addresses or whatever data you wish.

* MUCH MORE...

"Open Office" is compatible with WINDOWS, MAC, LINUX, AND OTHER OSs.

It is 100% FREE with NO SPYWARE, ADWARE, MALWARE, POP UPS, VIRUSES, WORMS, OR ANNOYING OR NASTY STUFF.

Would have to concur, I know/have used openoffice when I built a new PC and didn't have the cash on hand to buy an MS office license.

One thing I can say about these guys is their product works as advertised. No strings attached.

I'm currently using version 2.x of OpenOffice, running it on my Linux systems and my Windows XP system as well.

Word processor and spreadsheet work just fine and have most of the MS Office key features. (Currently looking for stylesheet shortcut keys, but may just write a couple of macros to apply styles without taking hands off keyboard).

Glanced at the database... Somewhat Access-like, but not quite. Managed to get it talking to a MySQL database on another system, but haven't played with it for a while. Because I don't do a lot of slideshow-type stuff, I haven't played with the Impress module yet.
