I actually have a similar curiosity. A lot of people say it's more "politically correct" to call black people African-Americans..so.....does that mean you call Blacks in Canada "African- Canadians"? or "african- polish" and so and so......

Just more groups and more and more for people to separate themselves....

Most people don't know black people who are indiginous to Australia live in America, too.

I think they are called "people of color" .... at least that's what African Americans are called around here ...

I'd assume it'd differ with the person, place, and time period. 'Black' works for me, personally (which I am).

what does a person of color want to be called if they are mixed race?

One of the carpool kids calls himself "black" (which he isn't) .... his dad is 1st generation Italian and his mom is 2nd generation Indian (southwest India) .... he thinks it's cool to call himself that .... I tell him to go to Alabama and say that then see how cool everyone thinks it is ... he's an obnoxious kid anyway .... no matter if he was green or purple ...
