Am I the only one who thinks the world is overpopulated? Imagine if the planet had half as many people. How much less of the earth would we have to devote to growing crops and for housing. If you put any animal in an enviroment that does not have a supieor predetor the population will get out of control. Why would humans be any different? How could we control the population?
I hope this hasent been posted here before and that we can have a logical discussion on it.

Planet earth is still big enough for all of us. It just appears to be over populated because some of us are just filthy rich while others are too poor.

Not that I support uncontrolled growth of population. It's just there's a difference between working to find solutions for the future, and killing people to reduce the numbers.

The only argument I'm making however regarding this thread, is that I do not think the world is over populated at all right now.

I'm not sure the world is over populated or will become so.
I think last year was the first year the the rate of population growth did not increase (ie it still increased but there are signs we will fall off the exponential part of the curve as happens with all biological life forms). In the coming decades growth will likely level off.

I'm not sure who are Lecter's filthy rich but I think he could be refering to you and me? I do agree we need a way to scale back on our consumption particularly energy. China is developing at a phenomenal rate, I have read that it's building infrastructure/cities at the rate of a brand new Australia every year. India is just starting to enter this phase. We in the West need to lower our expectations, not so much to save the world but to make it easier for the less developed counties to catch up.

Ok, I'd like re-word my question. Am I the only one who thinks the quality of life for everyone and the health(for lack of a better word) of the planet would be better with say half as many people?
