This one passage said to have been spoken by Jesus is what most christians will cling to when you ask them why they even bother to obey laws even when they conflict with God's law.
I want to quote the exact passage here and ask... how on earth did they get that out of this? And is this really an excuse to disobey God's law in order to uphold man's law?
“Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s” (“Ἀπόδοτε οὖν τὰ Καίσαρος Καίσαρι καὶ τὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ τῷ Θεῷ”) (Matthew 22:21).
Other than this proving that the obviously human (not divine) author of this passage held Caesar as high as God and felt you should respect him as you would God... what does this prove really?
By breaking God's law I mean for example the following:
Capital Punishment
Slavery
