Most people who support a novel type interpretation of the bible, have not even read it.
They would be horrified by what they read. Unfortunately, when they do eventually read it, because their "book" is their only evidence of a God, they begin to condition them minds to accept it.
And you end up with some extreme fundamentalists, that want to bring back old testemant law, such as stoning for adultery. They would rather do this, than accept their own very natural doubts as to the validity of God and their bible. Without the bible, their faith..simply doesn't exist.
Let's be Glad, the majority of them never actually read it.
