You're right, technically. The Koran does forbid the taking of one's own life. What you fail to mention is the context. It says you cannot kill yourself out of selfishness (depression, etc.).

When you say this, I can only assume you are referring to suicide bombers, people who fly planes into buildings, and the like. According to the Koran, which you seem to know an awful lot about (voice dripping with sarcasm), if you die in a war, which is what Muslims consider terrorism to be, then sacrificing one's life, aka martyrdom (NOT suicide) is not only acceptable, but preferable. Martyrs are respected more than almost anyone in Islam.

Before you go bashing anyone outside your ridiculous belief system for not being true to their religion, know what you're talking about.

It's the same for Christians. I mean take a look at the big martyr on the cross. He's a super star.

True. You miss the point though. The point is, the people who kill themselves for 'a cause', whether we see it as justified or not, are glorified, not condemned like THEWALRUS said.

Ahh. ok. But I do believe that when it comes to the Koran both of you don't have it quite right.

I'm sure I don't, but I know for a fact that some 'suicide', such as suicide bombers etc., is allowed.

As the Old Testament describes what was acceptable during old times so does the Koran. I believe it was considered 'ok' when looking at it from the perspective of defending oneself. As in when these people were being attacked it was deemed ok. Of course, even die hard believers get the idiot bug and forget how to read. It's human error.

Maybe THE WALRUS meant the type of suicide that was not allowed. Muslims do not believe martyrdom constitutes suicide. They are separate ideas. So if he says they can't commit suicide, he means suicide, not martyrdom.
