Default Welcome to the new philosophy forums!

Thanks to user niranjan for PMing me the following message. I think a new philosophy forum is a great idea

Quote:
I would like to post a thread on Thomas Paine, someone whom I have admired heavily since my childhood, and who has influenced my thought process. I was wondering where I should put this thread on him ?

Agnostic forums is an instrument for the search of truth. Hence I believe a philosophy sub-forum is indispensable for the Agnostic Forums.

We can discuss guys like Emerson, Nietzche, Voltaire, Thomas Paine, Shankara, and hence can uplift the cultural and intellectual literacy of the forum members very much.

Just a friendly suggestion of mine.
As always the same rules apply here as in every forum on AF. So respect each other's opinions even in heated debate. And most of all, have fun!

Sweet. Philosophy is one of my possible majors next year, so this should be awesome.

Loved Thomas Paine's "Age of Reason" ... I think it's a great idea ... I was surprised when I found out that Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin weren't all that religious. The probably just had to keep it on the down low so that others would listen to them .... we all know they were ahead of their times.

Thanks very much George. However I must say that it is The An-Jel who gave me the idea of PMing you for this philosophy sub-forum. So I believe we should thank him as well.

Also wish to dedicate this philosophy sub-forum to Thomas Paine, who was the man who first created this idea in me, as I felt that there was no appropriate forum to discuss his views.

I guess his spirit and influence is still working among us to create a world dedicated to truth and reason and justice.

Did Thomas Paine write The Wealth of Nations, or was that Adam Smith? I'm too lazy to look it up.

Please tell us more about Philosophy. I took a Religion/Philosophy class in college (way back in the stone age) & found it quite compelling. Especially Descartes.
