it is easy not to accept the existence of the Lord when one lacks the fortitude needed to obey his laws
dismiss God means to dismiss his laws means to live a life of self gratitication
simple equation really

there are people, such as gandhi, who live very moral lives without a christian god. what about the fact that moral laws pre-date judaism?

If you would read the bible, you would realise that the bible, and the god in it, has no laws. That's called free will. He has certain rules, if you will. They are not laws, unless you just read the old testament.
I am not sure what point you are trying to make.
I know this. I do not believe in a bible god. But if there is one, I'm going to heaven. Whatever that is.
And that is simply for the fact that I live a good life. I am good to people. I don't lie, steal, or do anything, in my opinion bad.
If you believe in a god that will punish me for that, then maybe, JUST MAYBE, you should take another look at your bible and religion.
If you disagree with what I'm saying, then maybe MAYBE, your god isn't all good.
