| Not sure where to post this. If there is no God, or something behind our existance, I don't understand how anything holds any meaning.
I'll explain:
Lets say you live your life to serve others, okay? Well, you make other people feel good.
Why is this important?
Well, your fellow humans are better off.
Why is this important?
Um... they feel good, duh
Yea, but why is this important?
We like to be happy?
Why?
It feels good.
Why?
Well thats how our brains evolved?
So?
Wow Grant, you're so amazing!
You might as well have made some prebiotic soup feel "happier".
I'm having trouble making my point, lol
You and I might as well be some green slime sitting in a puddle right now. The only thing that makes us anything else is just a fart load of chance events compiling.
Did that make any sense?
If you ask "why" enough, our actions don't really mean anything.

Is that a new flavour of Heinz? I like Beef and Vegetable myself..
Look mate, just follow Jesus's advice and get on with life like the birds do without trying to fathom out the meaning of life -
Jesus said - "Don't worry about your life, what you'll eat or drink or wear. Life is more important than food, and the body more important than clothes.
Look at the birds, they don't sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet God feeds them. You're much more valuable than them.
Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?"
(Matt ch 6)
Look at the state of this poor bloke through worrying - |

-T- | Why? Why do what you do that you want to do? Are you trying to impress or find a reason to keep going on?
Do it for your fellow human beings. Do you hate human beings? Do you like life or your life?
Do you have a lot of fun in life or is it a drizzel? We are all in it together until the end. Figure out what the greatest Happiness in your life is... maybe it's societal happiness maybe it isn't. Depend on it and feel alive! Change your mind if you want to!
What I am saying is look at yourself. Your a human being among a bunch of other human beings... what are you getting out of it. If you don't believe in a God of some sort then the herd is what you have. My pleasures are writing, science, and women. I love Beautiful books, technology that improves life and reaches for the answers of what Reality really is, and Beautiful Women: Current fav is Natalie Portman today. Be entertained but don't recede with the public view of religion. If you feel you need to have a life after this then grab a religion and hold onto it with all you got. Reality could be so much better for everyone without all the religious scabs and power leeches out in the world. Both go hand in hand!

| So really this thread is just about the meaning of life right?? This is easy for me because im a very simple person. ^^ You have to find your own meaning in life. Look at it however you want, but I think the meaning of life is different for everyone, and you have to find your own peace with this topic. That's what i think, as simple as that! =D

| Looks like you answered your own question in your initial post grant. The evolved thing.
Our desires and traits as humans (like our desire to know the meaning of life) evolved over time and stemmed from our social connections we made from the very beginning of hunter gatherer groups and societies.
So LadyLuck is right on. The meaning of life is what you make it. Because the question, what is the meaning of life, was created by us. No one else.
Want proof? Look at our lives. Each of our lives are little mini evolutions that evolve us from the primordial soup or blank template of a baby into the people we are with the personalities we have today.
What troubles me is why do creationists have to blindly hold on to their faith so tightly that they can't accept the possibility that the way we evolve into the complex beings we are in our short little lifetimes is the same way we evolved into humans. Events in our lives just like events in the history of the earth shape us.

Again, I don't "hold to my faith so tightly that I can't accept the possibility that we evolve into complex beings we are". I find the theory to be illogical.
Evolution is theology; not science (not to say that religion isn't theological).
You raise a good point though.
Well, I didn't ask what you do for fun or how you keep yourself entertained, I asked how it holds importance or relevance. I'm not implying that there is no answer. I'm just trying to figure out why.

| My AV is Alan Moore and he should scare you. You made no indication of being a Jesus worshiper, so you seeking someone who is more in your tune and your right I am not one of you. Find emptiness and fill it with who knows what.

They have to hold onto things that make their anthropomorphic minds more credible.
Incidently my AV is of Alan Moore. He's suppose to be scary like all brilliance.
You scare me more than he does.
