Due to the fact that Judaism is seen as both a faith and an ancestry is the main reason why I ascribe a degree of sensitivity to this discussion. Throughout history our people have been systematically persecuted and discriminated against on the basis of our faith or ethnicity.

How would you feel if people perceived you differently on the basis of your jewish ancestry in the workforce? Would you feel sensitive about this discrimination and prejudice?

I think most people in the west have a lot of respect for the Jewish people, especially in terms of the arts, science and commerce. GiT alluded to the disproportionate accomplishments (I'm surprised nobody took him up on being superior... ) They may even have a begrudging respect for Zionism, how Israel has managed to hold on despite its neighbours avowing to push them in to the sea. Though I think many do have concerns that Israel's current tack it is taking with its immediate Arab neighbours.

In terms of sympathy there are many 'ancestries' that deserve sympathy. One that comes to mind is the Cathars ... and that was Christian on Christian! I cannot think of a major culture that has not been in some way responsible (Exceptions that come to mind are Amish, Dukabour, Cathars, JWs, there are probably eastern ones too)

In some esoteric thoughts, "Jews" are enlightened people, not the bloodline or the religion.

I suspect this to be true, although it has been buried under centuries of religious dogma to the contrary.

This was most likely a part of an oral tradition long before writing was developed. When you write such things down, the need of symbolism is obvious. The downside is it can't answer back like a living person can, so misinterpretations cannot be corrected on the spot.

More often than not, the symbolism is perpetuated and not the truths behind it. After so many years, only the symbolism remains. Nobody left to remember the truths.

This is the state of most religions today.
