Why cant muslims eat pork?

SisterX: someone told me that Mohammed banned the eating of pork as a health reason (because it was difficult to keep pork meat cool, and hence disease-free, in the desert, back in those days. So pork would always go bad).

Could you please confirm this for me, and if its correct, back it up with quotations from the Quran.

Muhammed did not ban pork, God commanded us not to eat pork. So muslims don't eat pork because of this command. Even if one was to make sure the meat was disease and parasite free, it would still be prohibited. Having said that, the swine is a scavenging animal and an omnivore that will eat anything. It is a very dirty animal by nature. Not only does pork take longer to digest than other types of meat, but it is usually ridden with parasitic worms and bacteria. Interestingly, it also has very similar amino acid combinations as human meat. Pig's are also sexually leud animal. It has been scientifically proven that many predators adopt behavioural traits from their prey, this may be true for human beings too. I don't know about early christianity but i know that pork is prohibited in judaism also.

Oh, wow, interesting reply, thanks for that! I learnt a lot. I always assumed Mohammed banned it. Didnt know Jewish people dont eat it either. I used to eat pork but then stopped altogether when i was about 5 (one of my friends got worms which made me feel disgusted).

Pork prohibited in Qur'ân
The Qur'ân prohibits the consumption of pork in no less than 4 different places. It is prohibited in 2:173, 5:3, 6:145 and 16:115. "Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah." [Al-Qur'ân 5:3] The above verses of the Holy Qur'ân are sufficient to satisfy a Muslim as to why pork is forbidden.

Fine , I'm lying. Prove to evryone else then that people take on the characteristics of their meat. Just a few links to a percentage of people eating Pheasant then sleeping in trees, that sort of stuff.
