| Abdus Salam The late Abdus Salam was a Pakistani physicist and the first Muslim to ever win the Nobel Prize. He lamented: Quote: |
There is no question that of all civilizations on this planet, science is the weakest in the lands of Islam. The dangers of this weakness cannot be overemphasized since honorable survival of a society depends directly on strength in science and technology in the conditions of the present age

| I think that not only science is weak in muslim communities but enlightenment in general. This does not mean that they should stop being muslim, but it means that the arts also need to be encouraged and developed in muslim countries. |

| This is tough when the general attitude (since 1100 CE) in the muslim community is that the laws of physics are false and that, instead, everything moves by the will of allah.

| You are both talking utter nonsense. Sorry but you are. Xenu, what type of 'arts' do you want islam to encourage? Islamic art is fills establishments all over the world. And Og, exactly which laws of physics does islam say is 'false'? That is just a lie. Islam say the laws of physics are true, and truly established by All-Mighty God.

When I said art I was reffering to drawing, music, theatre, literature... which the muslim communities still has major issues dealing with.
In an interesting statistic, (Sam Harris, The End of Faith) Spain has translated more books into Spanish in one year than the entire Arab world in the last couple of decades. |

Perhaps you should reconsider ... |

| I concur. Baghdad and islam were the intellectual capitals of the world from about 800-1100 CE. That's where we get our numbers (1,2,3,4...) and where we get a variety of names of things like "al-gebra" and chemistry ("al-chemy") and many others.
That it's development halted violently at about 1100 CE doesn't mean that it doesn't have some powerful contributions that seeded parts of humanity.
