Default Good Day All

Good Day Everyone. I hope this post finds everyone feeling well.

My name is Jon and I was born and raised a Christian. My entire family, except for my older brother and my Dad, are extremely religious. But for me it just never really caught on. I guess you could say that I am kind of the black sheep of the family when it comes to religion.

I am married to a Catholic with two wonderful boys. My wife and boys mean everything two me. My boys were baptised as Catholics at the request of my wife, but I will raise them to believe what they want. I, as a child and teenager, had to go to church every week. I don't think someone should be forced to do this. It should be their choice. If they want to be there, they will go willingly. Once I moved away from home this immediately stopped. I just didn't see the sense in it.

Do I believe in god? Not really. There is really no proof that he exists. Plus, how can a god allow his creation to destroy each other and not do anything about it. When I was 3 or 4 y/o my little sister, who was about to turn 1 y/o, died. My family says it was part of gods perfect plan. Well if it was god's plan to take my sister away from this world, why did he even allow her to be born in the first place? Don't tell me an all seeing and knowing god couldn't plan that far into the future.

I have read the forum and there seems to be a lot of very intelligent people here from all walks of life. You will notice that I don't post a lot. I basically like to sit back and read. I have my opinions but normally keep them to myself unless someone asks. It seems sometimes things are better this way so that you don't offend anyone considering some people have thinner skin than other.

Well I guess this enough for now, and I will look forward to reading what you guys have to say and sometimes throw in my two cents. Everyone have a good day.

While I agree with that when it comes to church I think it would be hypocritical of us all as agnostics, atheists, whatever; to not note that sometimes parents have to force children to do things that they consider in their best interests. For example, forcing your child to get up and go to school.

So the argument here is that we can't tell parents they shouldn't force their kids to do something that they, the parents, feel is best for their children without getting into a circular argument over what parents should and shouldn't be allowed to force their kids to do and what really is in a child's best interests.

But I'll proudly wear the hypocrite badge in this instance because like I said parents shouldn't be allowed, in my opinion, to force their children to be force fed religious dogma, especially at young impressionable ages.

Ask a religious person that question though and they'll just say it was God's plan to make your family stronger... (Sorry to hear about that by the way)

Well I'm asking. Your opinions and input are greatly appreciated here whether it meshes with others or not. Don't worry about hurt feelings. We're all adults here (well mostly) and we've got 2 of the best moderators on the planet to keep things civil

Again, welcome.

There is a difference between secular education and religious indoctrination. One of these things you must have to make it through life to raise a family and to take care of yourself, and one you do not. I am sure you know which one I am talking about. A child should not be taught to pray for something or to look up to something that we don't even know exists. While I agree with you that it is not up to us to tell other people what to do with their children, but as parents people should take a real hard look at things so that they don't give children false sense of hope.

Thank you for your sympathy and the warm welcome. The folks here seem pretty polite. I again would like to wish everyone a good day.

There is definately nothing wrong with questioning things. That is how a person gains knowledge about a subject.

And you right, it doesn't make a lot of sense.

Thank you for the warm welcome.
