Smile new here. :)

hi, i'm new here. I'm a newly decided agnostic.
Not to offend anyone, but honestly the more educated I become on religion, the history of christianity, the pagan religions, the differences and similarities between them, and the time-line of religions and beliefs in history...the harder I find it to truly believe in Christian ideas and standards.
I am also a Psych. student, so i'm coming to understand more clearly the 'why's on a mental level.
I've just decided that it's all not for me. I've spent a year and a half researching all religions that I could get my hands on, and I have yet to find one that I didn't have some degree of a 'yeah right' reaction to.
I'd like to say that I'm still spiritual, I have what would be called 'hope' i suppose. I feel that there is something out there higher than humanity. I still find myself saying a mental prayer in times of trouble or unhappiness. Who am I praying to? Who knows. Maybe just anyone who could be in contact with my inner thought. maybe just myself.
I find that if something like prayer is comforting to you, it doesn't matter who are what is receiving it, if the act itself comforts you, it's served its purpose.

There is no real way for any of us to really know for sure what or who is out there. That is why it is called 'faith'. I just seem to have a problem relying solely on 'faith' or even 'hope'.

I like the pagan/wiccan philosophy of 'Harm Ye None, Do What Ye Will'. That really sums it up.

I do not believe in several aspects of Christian 'morality'. I believe that morality is determined by culture, circumstance, and consequence. The ten commandments:generally good ideas, yes. Do I attempt to live by them BECAUSE they are the ten commandments? Absolutely not. All actions have consequence. You just have to make sure that you don't do anything that carries a consequence that you cannot live with.

That's basically it, sorry it turned into a rant.

Prayers, meditation, centering yourself in times of stress any or all can be comforting ... who's to say what works ....

Welcome and happy posting. Deb

Hi singing-fish. Good posting. I also often pray to no-one in times of need.
