| Hi y'all... I'm an agnostic from the desert southwest. Raised as a baptist with a family that at present is simply driving me nuts...honestly, for me I'd rather not deal with the whole god issue, I'm comfortable in my own space without asking such questions at all, but...my family refuses to allow me to do so, in particular my mother, who, after a car accident on New Years Eve, has intensified her campaign to 'bring me back in the fold'....apparently, that's why god saved her that day (an eyeroll from me). So I guess I'm back in the ranks of the sort of militantly agnostic, well positively atheist, when it comes to the christian god. Looks like I'll be needing support from all quarters the next few months as my mother's 75th birthday rolls around and my sainted brothers (both with seminary degrees, yeesh) return home for a bit. Already I've had to fight off a 'you must show up for easter dinner assault', this despite the fact I haven't attended one in at least five years. I don't care how many times you call, I don't care if you rented a new car just for me to drive, I ain't going...
Anyways, just looking for a bit of support I guess, anywheres... |

If they bring it up listen intently, say "hmmm? thats something worth thinking about" and that should quiet them. They wont know that you thought of it for a half a second and dismissed it out of hand . As far as Easter and christmas dinners, you can still go to those without compromising your priniciples and integrity. Just look at it as family gatherings which in effect thats what they really are and its only twice a year. Welcome to the forum. |

| welcome bwilde...
Interesting situation .... never had that particular problem myself.
A couple of assumptions on my part:
Just remember
.... your family loves you?
.... they mean you well?
.... they can't help the way they are?
.... and all of the above apply to you as well?
have fun and all the best
