| Hi! I'm Katie! Well I'll have to start off with the fact that I was raised in a Methodist family. However, my parents rarely took me to church so I never really got into religion. My father strongly believes in "God" but I have always questioned it. Now I have a Catholic stepmom and I have to deal with the burden of her trying to get me to go to church. Church reminds me of organized religion. All I ever hear there is how things don't work and why other religions aren't right, but then I'll have a good friend that is in one of those religions and it hurts me. This kind of thing going on saying that other religions don't work is what started war in the first place. To me religion started war and violence. I have nothing againt religous people. My best friend is one of the most religious people I know. But she's not the kind of person that thinks other religions don't work. She knows about my views and she respects them. |

The majority of religions have a vested interest in claiming that their way is the only way to God and everyone else is wrong. You are correct in saying that relgious differences have been the cause of wars however, dont let it hurt you that your friend is religious. People have their beliefs as to what is right and wrong for them. As long as you respect each others beliefs you should be ok. |

i agree that too much war and violence has been caused by religious beliefs, but i wouldn't go so far as to say that war and violence in general were caused by religion. even if we lived in a purely atheistic world, i doubt that it would be a peaceful utopia. fighting and violence are simply facts of life. even herbavours are capable of fighting and killing eachother. when families combine into communities, and there is something that the community must fight another community for (such as land or food), vuala; war has been created.

Religions don't kill people, people kill people.
(Religions just happen to be a good excuse from time to time!!) |

I personally don't believe that we can really succeed in world peace. I think that there will always be violent. I just strongly believe that religions are hypocritical. They blame video games which is really ridiculous. They just think that they make kids lazy and blaming them for violence is a better excuse. I believe that the only way for us to succeed in complete world peace is if we completely forget about our own needs to live and just die altogether. Peace is literally impossible because it's impossible to keep violence from happening in the first place. |

| There has never been, nor will there ever be, a religious war The title reflects my belief that religion is nothing more than one of many excuses for war. If a domino theory or weapons of mass destruction doesn't work, then religion is always a good fallback.
Bottom line, in my humble opinion, is that no noble cause ever justifies the destruction of life and property perpetuated by military conflict. It always, without exception, if you look deeply enough, boils down to greed and lust for power.
There is no justification for any war.
