Default Hi there!

Hello,
I'm Chris and I am an agnostic (of the weak, soft or mild variety).

This is the first forum I've joined in years. I used to moderate several forums dealing with multimedia development (web/computer-based media, photography, digital art, etc.) but found I was spending too much of my life reading and responding to threads, so I gave it up for a time.

As for spirituality or the lack of; I was raised Episcopal. At 13 I decided to investigate religion without my parents and attended a Presbyterian church (PC-USA) for a while. After that, I spent 2 years at a Catholic school. My father was an architect who specialized in churches, so I was exposed to a good deal of diversity in Christianity through him.

Since the age of 18, or so, I've recognized myself as an agnostic, but have continued to study the literature and history of Christianity as an academic pursuit (My Oxford Study Bible gets a good workout from time to time). To that end, I have recently started attending church with my wife(Presbyterian-PCA). While I enjoy the academic part, it's more to spend time with my family than anything else.

Anyway, I probably won't post nearly as much as I read. If I do, please stop me.

Ha, I'm a relative newbie to forums. I think I'm approaching cumulative post 15,000 across all of the interwebs.

Welcome.

Are there any specific conclusions that your investigations have brought you to over the years?

Wow! Big question.

A Preface: I had a Biology professor tell me once that 'good science' doesn't necessarily aim to prove something as true, but rather that something is conclusively false.

Living in the southeastern US (part of the 'bible belt'), I often hear the so-called saved talk about a distinguishable moment in time where 'the spirit' moved through them and they just knew.

Conclusion: I'm sure I've never had such a moment.

But, ya know, Jesus said himself that he doesn't seek out the virtuous, only the sinners. So, maybe I'm one of the good guys. Hehehe

BTW: Thanks for the welcomes, everyone. I've been enjoying reading your thoughts and ideas.

I'm identifying with this.

I never had that experience either, that's for sure. But then some of the pro-religion books by scientists I have read said they had no such experience, other than the inner calm of feeling they finally made their mind up and are not constantly struggling to come to terms with things.
