Hello all, I'm new here (obviously).
I've been lurking for a few weeks. I came here looking for some logical, thinking people, as I live in an area of the US that is predominately conservative Christian. I do have one friend IRL that is agnostic, but we don't see each other often.
I grew up in a Christian home and went to church like a good girl. I've only been to church once (excluding weddings and funerals) since I was 18. (I'm 28 now.) I never enjoyed being at church, none of it made sense (even if it was "explained"), and I didn't feel like I was missing anything by not going.
At some point a few years ago, I realized that church (in general) and Christianity and God were three seperate concepts. Was I a Christian, and therefore a believer in God, that didn't go to church? Or was I a believer in God that wasn't a Christian? Or was I ready to throw in the towel on all three.
(oh! how ironic that Losing My Religion by REM just started playing on the internet radio that I'm listening to

)
I pondered these questions for a while and decided that I didn't see any real evidence for the existance of God within or outside of Christianity. So I decided that the best way to describe my beliefs was agnostic.
Recently, I've become more curious about the societal aspects of religion and mythology, and the conflict between science and religion. So, here I am, with an open mind, ready to learn, or at least think.
Thanks.
(PS, I never write this much, future posts will probably be shorter)
