| do you ever just want to know ? The basic tenet of being an agnostic is that one cannot know if there is a god. I still search and the journey is rather frustrating at times. I sometimes wish that i could just know if there is something supernatural out there or not. I don't see it as " enjoy the journey" type of deal. Do you guys ever just want to know, or are you complacent in not knowing ? |

| Me? I would love to know. But then again so did Plato and Socrates and Napoleon. Then again there are others who claimed they did know. Torquemada knew there was a god, Stalin knew there was no god.
My cat, Trotsky, hunts invisible mice. I think they are invisible but she still hunts. I point at her and laugh. But maybe one day, even though I live in a penthouse flat a full sixty feet above mouse level, she will find one. And then she will look at me and I will feel stupid.

| phidelis07 Sometimes I think I would want to really know but since I think I already know I would be disappointed to find out that I didn't know what I already knew .... and that would confuse me ...

| I used to want to know a lot-it consumed my life. All I could think about were the possibilities, and I couldn't stand the uncertainty. Now, while I know a god isn't disprovable, it's so improbable that I've ceased to wonder. I honestly don't care. The search was destroying my life and all I held dear. Now that I feel I have a better grasp on it, it doesn't affect me nearly at all. I truly live for the journey, though the destination is oblivion. So, in a weird way, the journey is the destination.

| Given the choice I would like to know, but...I don't know that that is possible for me anymore. Any sufficiently advanced civilization could appear to us to be God. How would I know if it were God, or an extra-terrestrial posing as God? If it behaved as God, would it matter which it was? Is the original concept of God from a visit in the past by an advanced race? I really wouldn't know what to think.
For now I am happy knowing that I don't know. I go to church with my family (who believe in God) in hopes of learning more. I speculate when I have the time. Mostly I live the life I've built. |

| Some things aren't meant to be known. I guess, the answer would be a no from me. |

| Good show, but that quote is originally from Arthur C. Clarke

| Yes. It would be nice to know.
It's been driving me crazy, especially the past few weeks. I've done so much researching and thinking. I have strong feelings that God isn't real though. I think that still going to church and being influenced by family is holding me back.

I was at Borders the other day and I started reading the God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. He claims if you read his book, that you'll become an atheist. Anyone ever read it? |
