The Bible is clearly sexist in both new and old "covenant". Any learned Christian knows this to be true and either accepts it or rejects it. There is no in the middle positon in the Bible. Sure Christ treated some women differently than his contemporaries, but this does not prove the Bible any less sexist. I think Micks excuse for not being married is not truly based on the quality of women available to him, it is more his ability to compatible for them. His loss not any woman's.

The New Testament was never intended to negate the Old. If you take the words of Jesus, the ones commonly accepted as his, then he says, "I did not come to abolish(misinterpret) the law(teachings), but to fulfill(correctly interpret) it." His teaching were basically a commentary on the Pentateuch.

Of course the Bible was saturated with male dominance.

1. Traditional Christian, Judaic, Islamic, etc. is patriarchal(done by men and for men)
2. Traditional theology has either ignored or falsely caricatured women.
3. Theology has had a negative affect on women's experience and history.

My goodness, the scriptures are riddled with horrible inequality. And by the way, Jesus(if he existed) was a Jewish Rabbi. He could no more escape his culture as we could ours.

I highly recommend reading Rosemary Ruether's perspective on Feminine Theology. She will certainly illuminate those ensnared in a Male dominated culture. I have never heard a debate she has not won, of course she has only debated Fundies.

In an article (Dismantling The Da Vinci Code) from Crisis magazine in September 2003, Sandra Messel quotes the Gospel of Thomas (note, it's not in the Bible):
