| Sure, Paul had to tell some noisy yappy women in the early churches to shut it because they were disrupting things, but he spoke highly of other women |

Really! Mick this is an excuse and has nothing to do with teaching. Women did not disrupt things in the church, that's silly. We're talking about preaching the word of God which they weren't allowed to do and it still happens today. Women are subordinate to us. We need a personage like Jesus to revamp the total chruch and Christian leadership and to have the ablitly to be able to tell them when they are wrong and when they can't read the Bible properly. When our preachers say things we believe the Bible never intended nor Jesus would have allowed we need to tell them Satan influenced them and quite making excuses for them.
It's my hope if any minister or religious person ever tells you women aren't equal you have the guts to tell them they're wrong and talk to a living person and not a dead one. In one respect you are right, Paul was totally confused. Jesus is the living one I refer to, Paul is dead. |

| My pastor is a man, but he does not treat women as any less worthy or anything. I have met some pastors who do, though. |

| My view on women clergy is simple - Give 'em a chance but if they turn out to be no good, give 'em the boot..
That's exactly my view on male clergy too, if they don't shape up, ship 'em out.. ;)
We had a chaplain at school 40 years ago, he used to stride around in his long black cassock glaring at us boys with a face as sour as sh*t, he must have put hundreds of kids off Jesus over the years..
But at my next school the Religious teacher was a young hippy-type John the baptist look-alike called Mr Haines who was the perfect example of what a true christians should be like - good-humoured, broadminded, easygoing, kool..
He was more like a pal to us than a teacher and no kid ever said a bad word about him, we knew he loved us, and we loved him back... |

| I grew up in the Quaker tradition that believes that all are equal in the eyes of God .
No priest, pastor, or rite is needed to access the divine - God - the Light - (insert your own terminology here ), as each individual has that power within.

| I think Paul was telling women to be quiet in the synagogue because they separated the men from the women. If a woman asked her husband a question during the "service" they had to yell across the building. It was disruptive. Therefore, Paul told women to be silent and ask their husbands at home. I believe it was more a cultural thing than a "law" about women not being allowed to preach. If it weren't for women missionaries like Lottie Moon and Amy Carmichael, some countries would have never heard the name of Jesus. I'm sure they preached, then when a man was raised up in the area, stepped down to allow the men to do the preaching. They then went some place else, and started again to preach the good news. |

This is the point I was going to make. The sign of the times is the greatest indicator of how women were to be treated in the bible. I mean, besides, lots of men still don't want women to feel as equals these days. It's sad, but true. Still, I understand why organized religions don't appeal to women...mainly because I am a woman.
