I understand where you coming from here. I agree that politics includes this level, but I wonder if it has to be limited to this level.

Oneness is described in the hindu spiritual path at the level above the navel (the heart) where you find the sound "Ohm (Aum)"... That is the fulcrum of their entire experience. Living in terms of this exclusiveness that you're describing is to live cast out of the garden of eden (i.e. in categories of thought). It's to have ideas of boundaries between you and those that are not like you. It is NOT oneness by any stretch of the imagination.

If so, then how would you describe genuine oneness?

It is spiritually inert. This is what all of western religion is today (except for science) and it is the central reason that the religion is stagnating and dieing. It does not even begin to speak to the new world we live in where the boundaries have disappeared and we are in a single unified globe (this is what science speaks to and enables).

Is religion as an entire category without use for humanity? Religion can't make good on its promises? Is oneness impossible for someone who uses religious terminology to understand their sense of reality?

There is no unity in the bigotries of baser popular religion. It only keeps the status quo by creating illusory boundaries between things. This is the essence of sin (i.e. categories of thought brought into our experience in the garden of eden).
What to be free of sin? Become a scientist (ironically).

Are the only two options the bigotries of baser popular religion and science? If so, then why is this any less of an illusory boundary?
Your mentioning the chakras reminds me of Spiral Dynamics. Have you heard of it?
SD wasn't based on the chakras, but there are certain similarities between them. Anodea Judith who has written a number of books on chakras also wrote one about the correlation of chakras to SD. I've also recently saw Jung's individuation in terms of archetypes correlated with Clare Graves theory which the SD model was based on. Of course, Jung was aware of the chakras, and so a connection there wouldn't be surprising.
I brought this up because SD is a social model. It describes politics as manifesting differently on each level. I realize the chakras model isn't describing the same thing because its a very ancient model. The original interpretation of the chakras probably had nothing to do with social structures at all.
SD doesn't necessarily have anything to do with oneness, but Wilber has used it in his theorizing. Wilber is certainly interestd in oneness.
