What we have to realize is that humans aren't ethereal, human are genetic lumps of fleshy clay so to speak and are weighed down to out universe by the laws of physics. We are three dimensional corporeal beings. Will is an ethereal non-corporeal thing existent in a space that is as well non-three-dimensional and ethereal. Now you can say that the idea of will is equivalent to thought and perception carried out by a series of cognitive responses and perceptions which the end result of being, or a cadalyst depending on how you want to look at it is the soul in a sense. The soul being non three dimensional and non corporeal and existing in a likewise state is able to excercise will and therefore you get the idea that ghosts or spirits can fly and pass through things, and poltergeists lifting heavy things and throwing them across rooms, because they can excercise entire free will.
Now imagine if you will a soul being somehow attached to and/or assimilated with a three dimension corporeal body. A body not able to exert free will on its own. however it does have the ability to exert free action, to move as it wishes or at least try to.
And so in a three dimensional realm free action is equivalent to free will and in an ethereal realm doing ANYTHING conceivable is equivalent to free will. Its all a mater of context to what area the "free will" is being used on.
However regardless if you can physically do anything you are always able to think what ever you want to think, now people can force you to think one way or another, like shocking you until you believe opening a green door as opposed to a red one is a bad thing because
you + green door + pain
and
you + red door = no pain
in the end you are wanting to think green door equals bad because if you do think that way you don't feel pain however you could choose to ignore this with proper will power so that you can believe the green door equals pain but that pain does not equal bad (masochists maybe?)
Now I also want to bring up the idea of thoughts themselves. As far as I am aware the end result of all of those cognitions and neural processes end up in the form of your thoughts which as demonstrated above can be under complete control of the person or can be under the control of the influences on a person (strong willed versus weak minded) where do these thoughts exist? Really where does this information actually exist, the though "I like tom he is nice" is separable into several parts, the processes of making the thought, the body interpreted those processes and finally the thought itself. I understand that the first two exist in th brain itself but after that what is it and where doe sit exist. It is intangible and therefor cant exist anywhere in our entirely tangible universe. And therefor must exist in an intangible universe that exists connected to our own. (a supernatural or spiritual parallel universe)
This may be the same place that the soul exists, or maybe even that the thoughts in collective are the soul.
Now this is where all that rambling comes together
We now have three distinct parts of a human
A body
A mind
A soul
The body is the third dimensional corporeal aspect of a human.
A soul is the ethereal incorporeal aspect of a human that links him to the spiritual (god if you will)
And then the mind which for the sake of humoring this post creates the intangible and therefor ethereal and quite possibly processes the ethereal, the commands of the soul for the body to act in free action in accordance to the desired will of the free will.
I think that there is the most pseudo-scientific and radically hypothetical explanation of how the Soul exists with the body in attempt to achieve free will in an environment of outside influence. But hell, in the end you have to admit I have quite the imagination to try and come up with an explanation as how it could all work, no?
Now on to the punishing bit. Well the soul is punished for making the body to what what the soul willed to do. I don't think I can make it any simpler than that. The soul said so, the body did so and in the end which part is responsible? The body a senseless non sapient bag of genes? The mind, a mass of muscle tissue that interprets what technically doesn't exist in our universe and relays it to this universe without any ability to know what it interprets. Or the overall commander that is sapient and sentient and can and does have the power to tell the brain to tell the body what to do?
Any question because quite frankly without them I don't think I could entirely understandwhat I jsut wrote.
