I just saw this on good morning america today. Carl Pearson, former head preacher of a southern megachurch, publicly denied hell because he couldn't reconcile a 'ever merciful' god torturing unbelievers forever. Needless to say, after he came out with this, his congregation went from more than 6,000 to less than 300.

I looked quick for an internet article but couldn't find one. Can anyone have better luck (I have to set up for my grad party now so I don't have time).

Seems to be setting a real firestorm of debate. As the fervency of the last thirty years among fundamental christians is seeing a true loss in membership from the total ineptitude of the Bush administration, and people are actually tiring of the racist, hate-mongering speech of the fundamentalist movement, numbers of participation are starting to drop.

Hell fire and brimstone doesn't sell as well as it used to. People are starting to wake up and realize that they can make choices and decisions concerning belief structures on their own.
