Perhaps it is reactionary post 9/11 crap, but it does pave the way for more open discussion ... among those of us who are less extreme. Being a recent deconvert from a very intense belief system (see the recent post on my blog) I've gotten a lot of understanding from reading Dawkins and Harris. But you may have been agnostic much longer than me, so it doesn't help you to read their work. I blame the education system .... we need to teach critical thinking skills.

I agree with you mick. I do, however, feel like these guys are effectively pundits in the equivalent to some idiotic show like "crossfire" on CNN talking out of both sides of the same ass.

And I agree with you about education. High schools should be CATHEDRALS and we should equally spend money on education and defense as both are important.

What good does a bet do in this "debate"? Meaningless.

Bet? What are you talking about?

And I agree that athiests and theists going at it is rather comical. When they debate, it only confirms my agnosticism; neither side is completely right, and I don't think they can be.

And about athiests being more socially acceptable than agnostics, I totally agree. I told this kid at work today I was agnostic. He is not religious, and even he flipped out. I was completely taken aback, to say the least.
