Default Ramana Maharshi on consciousness

Here are Ramana Maharshi's quotes.....

“Mind is consciousness which has put on limitations. You are originally unlimited and perfect. Later you take on limitations and become the mind.”

“It is not enough that one surrenders oneself. Surrender is to give oneself up to the original cause of one's being. Do not delude yourself by imagining such a source to be some God outside you. One's source is within oneself. Give yourself up to it. That means that you should seek the source and merge in it.”

“If one wants to abide in the thought-free state, a struggle is inevitable. One must fight one's way through before regaining one's original primal state. If one succeeds in the fight and reaches the goal, the enemy, namely the thoughts, will all subside in the Self and disappear entirely.”

And here is a quote of Eckhart Tolle....

You are not your thoughts. You are the awareness behind the thoughts. Thoughts are often negative and painful, yearning for or fearing something in the future, complaining about something in the present or fearing a matter from the past. However, the thoughts are not you; they are a construct of the ego. Awareness of your thoughts without being caught up in them is the first step to freedom.

What supports the awareness of your own thoughts? A God or are we the God inventing this awareness?

Default Quotes of Eckhart Tolle

Here are some more quotes of Eckhart Tolle....

You say, "I want to know myself." You are the "I". You are the Knowing. You are the consciousness through which everything is known. And that cannot know itself; it is itself.

When you know who you truly are, there is an abiding alive sense of peace. You could call it joy because thats what joy is : vibrantly alive peace. It is the joy of knowing yourself as the very life essence before life takes on form. That is the joy of Being- of being who you truly are.

Just as water can be solid , liquid , or gaseous, consciousness can be seen to be "frozen" as physical matter, "liquid" as mind and thought, or formless as pure consciousness.

Pure consciousness is Life before it comes into manifestation, and that Life looks at the world of form through "your" eyes because consciousness is who you are. When you know yourself as That, then you recognize yourself in everything.

Through "you" , formless consciousness has become aware of itself.

I believe that we are that awareness or consciousness.

Sounds like a bunch of hand waving and fairy tale talk. Consciousness arises from material. It's a property of a highly complex neural system. It doesn't exist "before the entity comes into manifestation."

Now, we could be talking about different things. I just get poetry and science crossed sometimes. They're so similar in my experience.

You can find more such wisdom and teachings of Eckhart Tolle in his books , "The power of Now", ( which is an international bestseller and considered the greatest book on spirituality in the modern era), and "Stillness Speaks".

I don't think we should jump into conclusions. It should be understood that matter is nothing but energy in its subtle form. And this was proved in the 20th century by Einstein.

And Indian spirituality , through the concept of Shiva Shakti, claims that while Shiva is pure all pervading consciousness, Shakti , which is the expresssion of Shiva, is nature and its manifestations energy and matter.

Here is a website and article on Shakti.

hinduwebsite.com/hinduism/shaktis.asp

And considering the fact that enlightened masters, no matter which country or religion they belonged to, perceived the whole existence as pure consciousness in its most subtle element, I think the theory that God or the whole of existence is pure all pervading consciousness should not be disregarded altogether.
