What is your belief about the source of Joan of Arc's visions?

Her family and society were religious fruitbats, the nation she was in was awaiting a prophesised saviour, a maiden to rescue them.
She apparently ate mushrooms from the forest prior to the visions. Which pretty much wraps it up for me.

She has the drugs, the background, the political demand and the sociological ignorance. How could she fail!

Woah. I had no idea. Can you give me a link to some reading that talks about this? I'd be interested in reading up.

I forget which book it was, theres some stuff on the net relating to her contemporys accusing her of taking witch herbs,(Hemp), the descriptions of her physical reaction to the visions was identical to someone completly stoned out of her head. Nowadays in a secular society, that amount of drugs would cause someone to imagine Big Bird from seseme street talking to you. In the rabidly catholic france, who else would you see but Gabriel?
