| How to stop religious growth in America I have just watched for the third time one of my favorite movies. Kevin Spacey’s “The Usual Suspects”, in which Spacey plays mind games with the Authorities into making them believe what he wants them to believe.
No offence meant to subscribers of this forum, but, if most of your fellow Americans believe in Religion, then they will believe in anything. (1930’s Orson Wells over the radio during a broadcast of “The war of the worlds”, says “The Martians have landed”, and people actually take off to the hills.
As the General public are so ignorant of the meaning of Atheism and Agnosticism, “ I would hazard a guess that most would equate it with Anarchism and bomb throwing”, I would suggest that the terminology of both is detrimental in trying to change attitudes.
We are doing nothing by chatting and agreeing with each other over old Jewish mysticism etc in these forums.
I have an Idea. How about we email the rat bag, one eyed, Bush apologist O’Reilly of Fox fame and other Christian pests, and ask how much support is now given to the “Independent Freethinking Party of America” and their platform of allowing free thought on religion |

| You want kill religion.
Tell them they do not have to follow anything but their own hearts. That life is for them. They have the option to do what ever they want to who ever they want. Tell them it is not their fault that they have a hard life. Tell them it is somebody else’s responsibility to take care of them and give them everything for free. Tell them that other people MUST give them what they want. Tell them that they do not have to follow any rules at all. Promise them the world,
Oh yeah, America is already doing that.
Forget what I said. They have it under control. |

| Why do you care if other people are religious?
It's their choice, just like it's your choice to not be religious.
It's pretty easy to turn off a television or radio if you don't want to hear someone talk about their religion.

| Sorry, not everyone wants to be a socialist. I certainly don't.
The only thing that should be done with religion is to remove it from the government. There should be no god on money. There should be no god in public schools. There should be no god in politics. There should be no god in laws.
That being said, if a politician or any other person chooses to believe in a god, that is their right. Just as it is my right not to believe.

| Symposium, I get the the impression that you are a fence sitter, who hasn't yet thought it through, saying, lets listen to the other side of the argument, even though we know that there is something, somebody has been lying to us all this time, it just doesn't make sense. We have been listening to the otherside of the argument for nearly 2000 years.
In my remaining years I will make it an obsession to read as much as I can about the human brain and try to find out why so called intelligent, even intellectuals, are obsessed with religion, and maybe go to my grave, correction, my ashes, knowing these, I seldom swear, (religious wankers), were wrong |

This is an interesting observation Symposium, that you bring Politics into this thread.
In other parts of the world, we get our information from Fox, CNN and BBC. As for American propaganda, it is apparent that if I wanted a Republican bias I would go to Fox and that obnoxious O'Reilly.
CNN a slightly less bias towards the Government and Republicanism, therefore I rely on BBC for non bias political information on American affairs.
Please elaborate, symposium. Why do you not want to be a Socialist. Have you also been brainwashed by O'reilly.
You have nothing to fear, after all the UK Labour Party under Tony Blair is a Socialist government. Don't confuse Fox propaganda and their obvious undermining of the opposition with the terminology Leftish, hoping that the less informed of your citizens equate this with Communism |

| It seems that the major religions growth may already be shrinking, if you look half way down this page you can see the percentages and how much they have grown or shrunk. I am proud to say that 'No Religion/Atheist/Agnostic' is the fastest growing section of the American religious demographic at +6.6% . But the overall numbers are small relative to the big two, unfortunately.
Refer to table 'Self-Described Religious Identification of U.S. Adult Population: 1990 and 2001' Demographics of the United States
