| Genesis is Backwards: Eve and Adam I was in a talk today with a scientist who was giving a more layperson directed discussion of the genetic/neuronal basis of obesity, sexual preference, and monogamy.
While talking about sexual preference, he described in mice (and humans) about how every creature is prototypically female and that it requires the intervention of the Y chromosome to produce testes which then produce testosterone which drives all male specific phenotypes. Without that intervention, all of us would be female (the prototypic human out of which all are generated).
He then mentioned that it was the exact opposite of genesis. I laughed out loud. Thought it was a neat paradigm shift and food for thought in face of the male structured christian/hebrew religion.

| i wonder what some one with only one x chromosome would be like, considering woman have 2 x chromosomes and male one x and one y. do you guys know if theres a difference between having only one x chromosome and 2 x? or is there no difference? i have some basic knowledge in genetics but not alot.

nondisjunction occurs when the chromosomes are not separated properly during meiosis, and a person can have an extra chromosome or be missing a chromosome.
turner syndrome is when a person is born with only an X chromosome. they are phenotypically female, but their sex organs do not mature and they're sterile. most have normal intelligence, and they can develop secondary sex charictaristics with estrogen replacement theropy.
Klinefelter sydrome is when the male has XXY. they have sex organs, but the testes are abnormally small, and they are also sterile. they usually develope slight breasts and other feminine characteristics.
XXX females show no difference from XX females. XYY males also show no difference from XY males (except sometimes they are taller than average). i think it is impossible to have a Y only male (at least i havn't read anything on it).

| I was taught back in the day by my old religion that men have one less rib because it was taken for Eve. But this is not true, both male and female have 12 pairs, so what gives? Assuming as a lot do that the bible is literal when it suits them.
You'd think that the Catholics after butchering so many people could have physically counted the ribs in a mans chest. |

However, some people do have varying numbers of ribs. Some people have more ribs than other people do, but being a man or a woman has nothing to do with it.
I read that somewhere. |

Specifically, a myth that takes place in a paradise garden where a goddess named Nin-ti heals the organs of a sick god including a rib. It turns out that "ti" has two meanings one of which is "to make live". There is also a Biblical notion that Eve means approximately "she who makes live".
