| If you're just looking for light stuff..
Douglas Adams is hilarious. If you like sci-fi, Frank Herbert would be perfect except I guess it's a little 'deep.' Isaac Asimov, Orson Scott Card, Carl Sagan...
I swear, if you read Doug Adams, you will laugh out loud. I guarantee it.

| The only book of Orson Scott Card I really liked was Ender's Game, all the others seemed a little weak..
If you're gonna read Asimov, you could read either the robot trilogy (although I like I, Robot better than any of the three novels) or the foundation trilogy. The robot trilogy is a little less 'deep', but I liked the foundation books a lot more.
I'd read anything by Carl Sagan, or his son Nick Sagan, but Nick's books are more for a younger demograph than you my dear deb.

| jaej ..... ouch ... you played the "old" card on me ... now I'm not going to bring you home a young, nubile girl in a "French maid" uniform from vacation. You'll just have to listen to the song that's out by Pink ..... "U and UR hand tonight" and dream on young pup!
Okay I'll check out Doug Adams. I want something I can start and stop often, not to think too deep ... something to keep my brain occupied while flying. I hate flying ... not the flying part ... the sitting still part .... drives me nuts to sit still. When we went to Hawaii, as soon as we were in the air ... I took a sleeping pill .... what was there to see ... water to the left .... water to the right ..... same on this trip.
Maybe if I sleep deep enough and we crash .... I'll sleep thru it .... ya think? That would be a bitch ... sleeping thru the crash ... no last minute wager ... "uh hey God, I changed my mind ... how about 3 Hail Mary's and one oh sh#t"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Splat! Oppps .... "why hello there Mr. Satan .... got my place warmed up for me next to the furnace? Oh goody, the nice really hot spot! Oh, even better I get to sit between Hitler and Idi Amin ... things just get better and better .... what do you mean my sister is on her way to spend eternity with me ... double damn! This is really going to be hell. I want a "do-over"!
Getting late and I'm getting goofy ... chat with you later.
BTW, I'd better laugh when I read Adams!!!

| Another funny writer good for lighter reading is Terry Pratchett. His Discworld series is up to 36 books now. |

| Douglas Adams is awesome. Get the Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide and read all of it. It's by my bed as I type this. You can be stricken with a great tragedy and feel better just by reading Douglas Adams. R.I.P. you crazy bastard.

| already read the "hitchhiker" ... read all of Robert Jordan, David Eddings, J V Jones, Stephen Donaldson, Melanie Rawn .... and the list goes on ... when I read "fun books" it's usually fantasy .... not into some of the really techno sci fi .... books that do the whole electrical engineering thing ... as in Hunt for Red October ... read all of James Patterson, Faye Kellerman, Robert Ludlum ... Johnathan Kellerman ... when you read as much as I do, you need something to grab your attention quick and keep up the pace .. I'm not fond of short stories for the most part ... the characters are difficult to give much depth to in such a short span .... thanks guys for all the suggestions.

| I wasn't calling you old deb, it's just his books are for kids. Or very young, immature adults..
Not that they're bad, I liked them, but I don't think you would be interested.
No french maid though??

| I didn't go to ball. I went to a party after though.
Oh yeah, I know who you are talking about. That kid is full of ****. One of the worst writers ever, nearly on par with jk rowling.

| BS!!! any book that can get kids (or adults) to read is a decent book ... it may not be a great book but it's still readable .... not every book has to be worthy of a Pulitzer! Rowling may not be your taste but for as much money as she's made .... you can call her any name and she'll laugh all the way to the bank .... I hope you are joking otherwise I might begin thinking that you are narrow minded and an ass.
Did you have fun at the after party, do all the "rites of passage" stuff that high school seniors do for graduation?
