Default favorite music genre

mine would have to be metalcore. I sometimes listen to softer stuff like finger 11, three days grace, RA,breaking benjamin, or other rock.

Early '70s rock and prog-rock for me, please: Stuff like "25 or 6 to 4", "Green-Eyed Lady", "Frankenstein", "Roundabout", "Riders on the Storm", and my all-time favourite song "The Story in Your Eyes".

Nice! Another prog rock person! Though I have to admit that I don't ever need to hear "Roundabout" again. The best Yes albums are "Relayer" and "Tales From Topographic Oceans". I can listen to those over and over again. How deep into prog do you go? Do you like Van der Graaf Generator? Hatfield and the North? King Crimson?

I've heard King Crimson but don't have any in my collection currently. Making a mental note to find and listen to some Van der Graaf and some Hatfield.

Liked Genesis till Steve Hackett left the band. Big fan of the Strawbs. Favourite albums are Selling England By the Pound and Hero and Heroine, respectively. Also like Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Renaissance. Also like the solo work by Genesis alumni Steve Hackett and Anthony Phillips (Like Gabriel too, but his solo albums aren't quite what I would call prog.)

I also heard a lot of great bands on Montreal radio circa 1974 - Harmonium is particularly good. Lots of other bands from that era I can barely remember now.

Regarding Yes, my favourite albums The Yes Album and Close to the Edge, both of which I play fairly regularly.

I like pretty much all music. The only music I don't really care for is some indie rock, hymns, emo, and southern gospel. And southern folk..

Edit: Southern folk music, not southern people. lol

Death/Doom metal (love Norwegian Satan/Odin), New Rock/ Grunge stuff, a little Easy Listening/ Soft Rock (due to my decrepit age), Blues, and Classical.
