Default What do you think of Jesus?

I think Jesus is more than a celebrity. He was an important enough figure in History since, lets face it, western civilizations are living in the year 2006 of the Christian Era. So, our history is basically divided in Before and After Christ.
I think maybe he was a pretty good preacher, since whatever has been written in the Bible and refers to him as the author, are some very interesting and profound statements.
He died some 2 thousand years ago and still has millions of followers all over the world.
I don't think people knew right away who he would be or represent. I don't think he resurrected. His friends were running away from him before his death, because they were fearing for their lives too. Nonetheless, Jesus was important enough to be referred by Flavious Josephus, one historian of the time, as a Profet from Galiley that died crucified by Pontius Pilatus.
But the great aparatus that became later the church, did a great job marketing a wise man, and choosing the "right" passages written by people years and years after Jesus lived, to make of this man, an exceptional creature, the "Son of God" born from a Virgin (wich I can't believe) and resurrected (I don't believed it happened either).
But what do you think of Jesus? I am curious to know.

Makes you wonder how much of the stories revolving around Jesus are based on myth, and which are based on truth! He obviously had to do something significant to gain such notoriety.

Ol' Jesus was some guy that probably had some buddies in the upper echelons with the Jews. He got rebellious... even legendary around Rome skating in and out of situations with his buddies as intermediaries. But as with any person who eventually goes too far he hit his limit that he could push or maybe he ****ed over the wrong Jew. The upper echelons let him loose and the Romans killed him brutally as an example. Legends are just that, they created this whole rebellion around Jesus... some desparates even made his witisisms and speaches into the "Son of God" when he was actually a son of a bitch. Poof you have Michael Jackson only Jesus was found guilty and Michael bought his way out. Different times Different methodology Different results.
As the Jews who could read and write at the time used this persona to make Jesus a Martyr they wrote him into the Bible. A Legend is a powerful figure without a doubt.
Also Jesus reminds me a lot of Socrates and I think the Greeks wrote the Bible. Think of the Battle between the Titans and the Gods only reverse it. The Bad Angels lead by the "Dawn of Light" aka Lucifer aka Satan fought against God and were cast down into Hell. The Gods fought against their parents the Titans and they cast the Titans down into Tarterus. Interesting parallel.

The books attributed to Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are a good read. Jesus actually hung out with lepers, prostitutes, cripples, and the outcasts and riff raff in general. These were people who were not allowed into the temple, and shunned by society. Jesus ticked off a lot of the religio/political bigwigs of that society by basically pointing out their hypocrisy, and the fact that these 'holier-than thou" types were basically full of crap.
He used a cup as an example. What's the use of cleaning the outside of the cup, when the inside is still filthy?
A friend of mine, an ex-alky/druggy/psych ward resident, like me, uses the term "candy apple Christian". All bright and shiny on the outside, but rotten to the core. That's one of the biggest things Jesus railed about, being a phoney, high and mighty, and wagging your finger at everyone else. He was definitely a radical, a dangerous thinker....

VIPERS by Mick
Once upon a time there was a land ruled for centuries by pompous snooty priests operating out of the Great Temple; they kept the people suppressed and in awe of them because they liked to think they were above everybody else, and were backed up by their own temple guard soldiers.
Then a young carpenter from Nazareth walked into town, and despite the fact he was still only in his 20's and they were much older and more educated than him, he shouted straight out at them:-

"THE PROSTITUTES ARE ENTERING THE KINGDOM OF GOD AHEAD OF YOU!" (Matt 21:32)
You tie up heavy loads and put them on men's shoulders, but you yourselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them!

EVERYTHING YOU DO IS DONE FOR SHOW! you love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues;you love to be greeted in the marketplaces and to have men call you Teacher!

YOU SHUT THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IN MENS FACES! You yourselves don't enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to!

You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, YOU MAKE HIM TWICE AS MUCH A SON OF HELL AS YOU ARE!

You're like whitewashed tombs which look good on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men's bones and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside YOU ARE FULL OF HYPOCRISY AND WICKEDNESS!

YOU SNAKES,YOU BROOD OF VIPERS,HOW WILL YOU ESCAPE BEING CONDEMNED TO HELL?
(Matt ch 23)

So they killed him..
But today 2 billion people around the world follow him, thats 1 in every 3 people on the planet, making Christianity by far the biggest religion.
Yes,they killed him, but he knew:-
"My words will never pass away" (Matt 24:35)

And he also knew we'd follow him all these centuries later:-
"Blessed are those who have not seen me and yet have believed." (John 20:29)

The size of sexual organs is not what's in question here. The question is whether or not He is who He is perported to be. The jury seems to be out on this forum. I, for one, choose to believe. I guess we'll all find out when He comes back.

I see a lot of similarities between Jesus of Nazareth and Siddhārtha Gautama, aka The Buddha. Very little is known about their early lives, most texts regarding their lives and teachings weren't written until years after their deaths, legend holds that each received "wise men" shortly after birth who predicted that he would be a king, both are the figureheads of modern religious tradition, both are credited with begining their spiritual journeys in the late 20's, both are credited with preaching to even the lowest social classes, etc.

Well each and every person takes their own journey and how it ends... they can either be a positive, negative, or selfish influence on the world. I bet you can guess how most of the world decides. I don't have any idea how Jesus and Buddha decided all I have are legends and myths.
