Even if it is tarnished, he probably has enough money to where he doesn't really need to care.

Or at least not much.

I have to say that since The Passion of the Christ and this more recent turn of events with his drunken debacle, I have lost respect for the man and now have difficulty watching his movies. But that's just my feeling on the matter - I'm sure others feel differently and can seperate the actor and the man.

Like most showbiz people, Gibson is spiritually shallow, its not his fault, I guess its in entertainers DNA to be that way.
I mean, their whole life revolves around putting on a "show" and I think all that empty showbizzy glam and glitter gets to them in the end..
Christianity is all about looking deeper -
"The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart" (1 Sam 16:7)

So in their attempts to fill the spiritual emptiness within themselves, they either turn to cults like Scientology (Travolta and Cruise), or to the bottle (Gibson) or drugs, but they rarely turn to Jesus..
Some kill themselves..

Diana Barrymore, actress, alcohol and sleeping pills.
Clara Blandick, Auntie Em in the Wizard of Oz, sleeping pills.
Jonathan Brandis, actor Seaquest DSV, hanged.
Ray Combs, host of Family Feud, hanged himself at Glendale Adventist Hospital.
Lillian Millicent Entwistle, starlet, jumped off the Hollywood sign.
Rusty Hamer, Danny Thomas' son on Make Room For Daddy, gunshot.
Margaux Hemingway, actress, barbiturates.
Freddie Prinze, Chico and the Man, gunshot.
George Sanders, actor, sleeping-pill overdose.
The list goes on..

There certainly are some pretty miserable celebrities out there. Goes to show fame and money doesn't equal peace of mind.

As I remember it... at the time Israel was performing Bush Politics and beating down the Lebonese... doing to Lebanon (which they achieved Hamas is stronger than ever there) and bombing the hell out of them. Same as we are doing in Iraq. Iran will be the stronger for it in the end.

It seems to me good ol' Mel might have been expressing certain feelings that a lot of people were feeling about Israel at the time but being drunk always puts a terrible spin on the words that come out of ones mouth.

Mel probably met the wrong guys and he was talking about them, not Jews in general. I know he sounded general, but that's because Mel seems to be a star idiot. Maybe a bunch of businessmen, who were Jews, played around with him and he didn't like that.

That's all there may be to it.

I actually never really liked Mel Gibson, except on those movies he did with Danny Glover, playing the crazy cop (Lethal Weapon series) But as a person, I found him always arrogant and too christian for my taste. I didn't see the Passion movie, and I am not seeing this new one either. I think he knew perfectly well what he was saying when he got arrested. That is not something that comes out just because something happens. It is inside and comes out to show the real colors!

Braveheart was great! It was like England going against the Nazi's only England lost but hey... I admit I liked Jesus getting beaten and the thought he could rise was inspiring. I laughed at the American churches that bought tickets and tickets and then Mel spouting intolerant views towards Jesus own people. Semitism, Anti-Semitism... religion is such a joke.

Mel's father's name is Hutton Gibson. He is a known anti-Semite and Holocaust denier. He is part of a sect of Cathlicism that is not recognized by the Vatican. En Vino Veritas-There is Truth in Wine. This anger and hatred is somewhere inside Mel. I think if the arresting officer were Irish or black, he would have launched into a tirade against their ethnicity as well.
Maybe I missed something, but i thought the movie "The Passion" depicted the Romans as brutal animals. The Jews portrayed in the movie (besides Jesus, his family and friends) who were the "bad guys" were the "Establishment", the "Authorities", and the "System".
The message I got from that aspect of the film was not "Watch out for the Jews" but "Watch out for the Power Brokers." Then again, I already was wary of the powerful before I saw the movie, so......
