| I agree with Walrus, I mean i don't know a whole lot about politics, but things like gay marriage and abortion wouldn't be such an issue if we werent a christian nation. Please correct me if im wrong, because like i said i know nothing about politics, but it seems to me that religion has no place in government, especially in a country as diverse as America.

| George Washington, being #1 on the list, is the only one I'll comment on as I recently heard a quote ascribed to him which indicated a strong belief in God. A quick net search came up with an article that mentions a guy that wrote 12 volumes on him; the last volume delving into his religious beliefs. I wonder how many others probably should not be on that list. Here's a link to the article... George Washington, a Christian? - ChristianAnswers.Net
My opinion is the country was largely founded by people who were seeking a better life than the one the left and wanted a constitution that would provide that. Not just from religious persecutioon but also from governments that did not allow for equality of life. Most likely the majority at the time were religious with Christianity being the primary religion and so I would say it was primarily a Christian nation at that time. Back then, without radio / t.v., the church played a large social role often times with churches doubling as schools in small towns. Today I'd say America is primarily a secular nation with the mass having a live and let live attitude and smaller factions promoting various agendas. |

| walrus, i would remind you that a nation led by christians and a christian nation are two different things. If President Bush and congress were muslim, that would not make the U.S. a muslim nation.
