| How many believe? I'm standing at weekly Catholic mass(lots of fun) and I'm looking around at all the wandering eyes, the shut eyes, and the staring bored eyes. I really wonder how many people who show up to these masses believe in what they are hearing, are they grasping this and making there own decisions about their faith, or are they mindlessly falling in line? |

| Socially Religion is the correct thing to do isn't it? Does it matter if they grasp it as long as they can tell their clients and customers that they are Christian, Catholic, or whatever religion they happen to be?

| I always thought the worst part of Mass was the big long prayer thing before communion. Holy crap, was anyone not drifting off during that part? |

| I have only been to (catholic) Mass a few times, and the only thing that prevented me from snoozing was the constant change in the pew; from sitting to kneeling.
I just wanted to nap, and "god" prevented me from getting my Sunday rest. Perhaps, I will get enough rest in heaven

| Right on AnJel.
I used to wonder the same thing. My mother took me to a Babtist church for a while when I was about 13. People of all ages would get the Holy Spirit and run up and down the aisles, scream and roll around on the ground. Forgive me for saying it, but after the initial shock and fear wore off, it was quite entertaining. At the Lutheran church, it was sit, stand, repeat and listening to what shounded like Gregorian chants. They said the Holy Spirit was in us all. but people were quiet and prayed in silent reflection.
Hmmm, this is interesting. The same Holy Spirit in us all, but two very different reactions. Is it possible that this is a learned behavior, something people were socialized to do? I asked the youth pastor about this and he actually told me to stop thinking about it so much and just believe, have faith. I've never told anyone this, but this is why I finally stopped actively going to church. He told me to stop thinking. |

What's more disconcerting to me are the people that show up some Sundays pumped up and "lovin' the spirit," but next week they may miss because of football, or they slept in, or they just don't seem to care. How can something as apparently as important as god be thrown off casually but embraced so fully at someone's convenience? |

| The whole reason why you had clergy back in the day was because people were illiterate. It was the clergy's role to preach since no one could read for themselves. But in this day and age, we can read and write, so read for yourselves.
No point going to Church if you dont believe in God or are doubting. Youve gotta read for yourself. Ask about the proofs and question them. Youve gotta investigate for yourself & use your brain. |

I couldn't believe the flagrancy. Who is the preacher incidently?
