| Why can't (some) Christians just be charitable? I was looking to donate to a charity this year and decided underpriviliged kids would be the way to go for me. I mean Whitney Houston believes they are our future so...
In any case after doing some research I became depressed. I noticed that a lot of the largest, most well known organizations focusing on what I want are to donating for are christian operated. Now I have no problem with that in itself. The problem arises with how some of them are run.
I found out a few interesting things about sponsoring a child from an underdeveloped country. Number one you really need to research the agency you are donating money to, specifically how they distribute it. Depending on how they do it the money could actually hurt the child and their family.
For example it can hurt the parents in 2 ways. It can make them feel incompetent and some of the methods of giving can go against their beliefs. In some cultures gifts are only accepted ina certain way. It can also make the parents lazy and it's even been known to cause them to abandon the child since they feel like the child is well taken care of.
Also something I imagined was probably happening but didn't know for sure turns out to be true. The donations do cause a rift between the children receiving gifts and the ones that don't.
But my main issue and topic of this thread is the motivation of some of the charities. I found out some christian organizations, no matter the culture they are giving to will hand out bibles and religious literature bundled with the gifts and force the gift receivers to sit through sermons.
Now I know a few evangelical christians and they are good people. To them it's not forcing their religion on people but instead they see it as giving someoen the "gift of hope and salvation". Especially to people who may be feeling all hope is lost. I can understand that.... But giving bibles and sermons to muslim kids is not a good thing no matter how greatful they act and no matter what you tell yourself to make you feel better.
Am I wrong here?

| The answer is simply find a well reputed organisation to donate to, and do it. Just make sure they don't buy Bibles with your money and hand them out to suffering people. Snot that hard is it? |

| I see still desperate to try and make Christians look bad. But you see, any so called "Christian" who keeps his money to himself is not a Christian. Any "Christian" who has no problem going against God's word is not a Christian. Any "Christian" who knows what happens to unbelievers and does not care is not a Christian. People will say, "Oh God is cruel he sends people to hell." Does a judge not send people to jail. And what do we call a judge who turns a blind eye to a rapist? A corrupt judge. God will NEVER EVER be, a corrupt judge.
Many people call themselves Christians, not realising what the word means and stands for. A follower of Christ. And a follower of Christ would do as Christ commands. People make mistakes, God knows that. He is not a cruel dictator. But some people who call themself Christian have no problem at all disobeying God's law. Hence, they are not Christian. I Tell you now, if I see any person who is poor or hungry and I can help, I do it.
My money will not do me anything. When I die, all that money I gathered ceases to have any importance. And you say vinterland, make sure they are not giving Bible's to suffering people...I see how much your care for them and their souls. All the money you give them and food, yes it does help. But I can assure you that a poor man has much riches, and a hungry man has much to eat, when they enter the kingdom of God. |

| the answer to why some christians are not charitable is because they are Christians in name only. Unfortunately, this is a common thing these days....

| You are right about that. They say they are Christians but they are not. It isn't just a word. |

| So what do Christians do to police their own? Praying doesn't do much good, calling these so called pseudo-Christians doesn't do much good, waiting for your God's judgement doesn't help the poor people these types of people are screwin' over. What do you suggest?

| Did you not listen? you think God is going to punish these people who haven't had a chance to know him, or learn about him? No, he wont. It would be different if they directly rejected him, but I'm sure they haven't.
Praying does more good than if I brought a basket of food and a million dollars over there. I have prayed for so many people, including myself. God always, and I am serious, always answered my prayers. Praying is more than putting your hands together and saying a few words and hoping god will answer.
Do you know it makes God mad when you pray and say something like, "I hope Lord, that you will answer my prayer" Because how many times does he tell us, that he is not a liar, and that he wnats us to pray so he can answer our prayers. So if you say I hope, you are basicly saying, "I hope you do not lie" That is a lie right there, and that is sin. Sin stops God from hearing your prayer altogether... |

| No one is making Christians look bad. Some make themselves look bad. Also, you probably break at least one of God's laws every day. You REALLY think you got them all covered? Faith, if God just showed himself to everyone, there wouldn't be any unbelievers. Everyone who has not been exposed to Christianity is an unbeliever. That's A LOT of people living on this planet. Since God won't do that, he DOES want people to go to Hell. Do not compare God to a judge. A judge sends someone to be punished for a heinous crime they commit. Also, the punishment does not last for ETERNITY. When you are in Hell, you are tortured for eternity for NO reason other than the fact that God is a sadist. If God sends a good person who volunteers every day of his or her life to Hell for not believing in God because she NEVER EVEN KNEW WHO HE WAS, God is corrupt and psychotic. Sorry.
Every Christian, including you, disobeys God's laws. There are MANY, MANY laws. Many of which you probably have never heard of or remember. You are basically saying that you are the perfect Christian. You are not. Isn't that pride, one of the 7 deadly sins? Who are you to say who's Christian and who is not? You sound like you're speaking for God. Oops..
Your money helps you to survive. Again, why can't they just feed the children? I'm assuming that God doesn't WANT them to be Christian because they have never known of Christianity. I'd assume that a good, non-corrupt God would just send good people to Heaven, especially if they have never known him. God has impossible standards. You have to be saved, but if you've never known of God, tough luck. You don't see anything wrong with that? Quote:

| Does the Bible says God won't send unbelievers who never knew of God to Hell or is that just something you made up to make yourself feel better? In all actuality, I don't know how it's "better" for God to send a non-believer who knew of him to Hell regardless of the fact that that person spent every second of his or her life helping people. That's cruel.
Praying does more good than if you have a lot of food and a million dollars? Okay, now you are going off the deep end. PLEASE think logically. Prayer does not put food on the table. That's why you have job. So you can put food on your table. You are REALLY starting to sound delusional. I'm sure you must've prayed for God to end world hunger or cancer or something. Has that happened yet? No. Therefore God doesn't answer prayers. Have you ever heard of coincidences? Yeah, that's why your "prayers" work.
You know what makes God angry? He gets pissed off if you add "hope" in the prayer? Oh, that's right. THAT'S why a lot of prayers aren't answered. I see... Hahaha! You're funny. You do realize that if a child prays to God to stop his father from raping him and God does not answer the prayer because he says "hope," God is sick and not worthy of worship, right?
Even the most faithful Christians have prayed to end world hunger, cancer, miscarriages, etc. and NOTHING has happened. Therefore, God doesn't answer prayers.
God gets angry at the stupidest, craziest things. "Oh. You don't worship me even though I don't show myself because I'm a punk female dog! Grr. I'm mad!" "Oh. You lust even though I created that lust in you! Grr. I'm steaming mad!" "Oh. I'm mad because you said "hope" in your prayer! What, you don't believe that I'll do it? Grr. I'm steaming mad! I'm not going to give you and your starving parentless brothers and sisters food! Grr!" I really don't care what makes God mad. Everything makes God mad. He sounds like a narcissistic psychopath. "You have to worship my beauty self or I'll send you to burn in Hell for eternity!" Ugh. And don't tell me I'm making God mad because I really don't care. Too bad. What's he going to do? Send me to Hell? Well, I guess I'll just go with the 95% of other people who are going to be there. And he's supposed to be all-loving...That's an oxymoron if I ever heard of one. Quote:

When did I say I obey every single law and never break it? And how many times have I said, God does not send people to hell who never knew him. Guess you don't have proper reading skills yet, we will work on that later though.
And God does not show himself, cause no one deserves eternal life for believeing in something they saw. Who doesn't believe what they see?
Money doesn't help you survive, where did you get that from? You think you can make enough money to pay god to let you live? Ya you are right, I shoudln't compare God to a judge. That would be kind of putting him down and making him seem unfair, as judges are. God is a true judge. You saythe punishment is for eternity, but so is the reward. And it isn't even that hard, we make it hard for ourselves.
You obviously don't read properly and make assumptions, cause God does not send people who never knew him to hell, and he does not judge wrongly. Desperate people who want to live their life without consequence usualy complain about hell. If you do as God commands, you do'nt have to worry bout that.
Now before you go flapping your mouth around making assumptions, maybe you might to read a little bit closer what I said. |
