Default Looking for information regarding traditions/rituals

Hello.
A good friend of mine told me a couple interesting things awhile back that she had heard from a professor of hers and I was looking to find some more information regarding them.
For example, she told me that the real reason priests in the catholic church cannot marry is because thousands of years ago, they did allow them to marry and then the church land that they owned would always get passed down to their children and the church wanted the land to themselves, so they decided to not allow priests to marry so they wouldnt have offspring to pass their land on to.

Also, the reason catholics eat fish on fridays in lent had to do with the fact that all the discplines of jesus were fishermen and were trying to promote their business.

I am really interested to know more about such things and if they are true, and more examples of why catholic/christain ritauls and traditions are the way they are. THE REAL REASONS, not the phony reasons they give.

If anyone knows any sites that cover these kinds of things or simply know any more stories like these, PLEASE share them with me.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
