Default Another Yard

ANOTHER YARD by Mick

Ben Cross in Chariots of Fire sat sulking after being beaten in a race for the first time ever by about a yard.
Then up comes coach Ian Holm and says "I can give you another yard"..
The rest is history, under Holms expert coaching, Cross goes on to win an Olympic gold.
Likewise Jesus is the coach we all need to get us through the pearly gates, but atheists and nonchristians reject him outright and get left trailing behind..
"Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize" (1 Cor 9:24)

And why do I do it? This zillion yard dash
If we don't help each other, we're all gonna crash.

And then the mommy quiets him and looks at him eye to eye and says
sometimes it's better not to go fast
there are beautiful sights to be seen when you're last

Shouldn't it be that you just try your best?
and that's more important than beating the rest?
Shouldn't it be, looking back at the end,
that you judge your own race by the help that you lend?

So take what's inside you and make big bold choices
and for those who can't speak for themselves use bold voices
make friends, love well, bring art to this place
and make the world better for the whole human race
Another opinion.

Namaste

I prefer what Jesus said in reference to the lilies of the field.. Who needs this race? I'll let you run until you have a heart attack. I'll enjoy the lilies of the field and the sun and the stars.

Paul seemed like quite an activist speaking to a variety of people in situations that you don't really find any more. I wonder what the situation was for the people in Corinth that Paul thought that they needed this kind of message.

We all die. Not everyone really lives.

It's funny, there's another thread in this section that deals with arrogance and hatred. Examples of two non-Christians were made, but your name was surprisingly absent.

As for the grave itself, in many regions, it is likely to remain warmer than surface temperatures during the colder months due to its depth. Not to mention the fact that heat is usually generated from the decomposition process.

Not to mention something like cremation which eliminates the need for a grave at all or even allows you to become jewelry.

So, do you believe all life on this planet is made up of losers because we all die?

No he just wants to believe all non-believers are going to suffer because if we don't then that means he's kissing God's ass for nothing.

What a selfish arrogant thing religion is eh?

Mick you are what we in our circles call a religious fruitcake.

Default Another inch

I think that once you have a coach that gives you a yard, someone else is yelling you should win by an inch more! The fact is that you have already won and the race is only one of many. A christian can agree with me when one believes that the race is not one of many, more like a marathon with many places to pass. It is hard to believe that the work of a race is even life, many things aren't competitive, like sitting across from people and reading. Ahh! the boredom of it is so fresh. I think that there are many times when people are in their own right excited to find something else to talk about, rather than getting higher up on the totem pole. Besides when we are all competing where is the drive to compete for excellence. Excellence can give rise to the willingness to find a better answer and the better answers can give rise to new evidence; importance is ideally placed on the willingness to have the freedom of socializing without hurting someone's feelings.

So where is our commonplace ability to think of things that we talk about as common-place. Have we lost our wonder, to what may be possible and left it aside for watching our stuff sit around us? Glit and glam are only the loss of attention span and the wonder and newness of things is put aside. Now, not to say that short attention span is a bad thing, I think that if we have a lot to talk about we are then thereby allowed to believe things are commonplace. Would it rather be that people are stuck without a language and are forced to sound off without a care in the articulation of it all. People that fear the leadership without the rendered time with that place or that group of people only make it harder and more difficult to expand with their intellect the words that tenderly explain the small movements of nature. The willingness for people to make the desire for those new things are then people that are really well ready to compete. But at the competition, lightly are the words that explain, for people are trying to follow small movements of nature. The willingness and the ability to forgive people for doing wrong should not be admonished because people are inherently good.

I could go on but I think that people are necessarily looking for more than just words, actions are also necessary.

I think you misinterpreted this quote. Note it says "Run in SUCH A WAY as to get the prize." This quote is talking about WAYS to run not the people that run. It is illustrating there is only one way to God, and if you run God's way you will get the prize.

Actually, churches nowadays go through all the same problems that churches back then went through. Pauls letters are still very relevant.

The only way to win the race and recieve the prize is through faith, as Jesus said many times. Something refered to as blind trust to the agnostics and atheists. But trust in Jesus and the Father is never blind trust. God keeps his promises, and is faithful to the faithful, many people have yet to experience God's love, not because it hasn't been given, but because they wont take it.

Do not take my words as words of condemnation. God judges you by how you judge others, something we all need to remember. But God's love is trustworthy, God's love is infinite, God's word is true. Only through faith do we recieve the prize of the spiritual race we all run. Figuratively speaking, some never run the race. Some run the race but run out of breath easily and give up. Some run the race, grow tired and are tempted to stop, but keep running. Finally they pass the line and the short race they ran was worth doing 1000 times over for the prize they receive.

In times of need, pray, and with faith. Your prayer wont go unanswered. If you fall, ask God to pick you up, He is always there, "I will never leave you, or forsake you." God's love is not hard to earn, in fact everyone has it, all you have to do is take it.
