Let 'em go LET 'EM GO by Mick
When King Davids young son lay grievously ill, David was in a terrible state, fretting and worrying, unable to eat or sleep.
After a week the boy died and they were afraid to tell him at first in case it sent him over the edge.
But when he heard, he simply pulled himself together and began eating again as if nothing had happened.
People said to him "You surprise us because you seem to be taking the news so lightly", to which he replied "I can't bring him back. I can go to him but he won't be coming back to me" (2 Sam 12:23)
The moral for all of us? - Take it on the chin, mourn by all means but don't overdo it.
My mother never had a days illness in her life, so when she collapsed in front of me in 1999 aged 76 it was a shock, we got her to hospital but she was fading fast and the docs said it'd be best to just let her die rather than keep her alive as a vegetable, so I told them yes okay, and she went into a coma and died 5 days later.
I made a few visits to her bungalow over the next week to clear out her furniture and stuff, and on the last visit late one night I stood in the cold dark bare place and just mumbled a few words into thin air for myself more than her -
"Well mam that's it then, you had a good innings and now you're with your parents and sisters and brothers again, so enjoy yourself. Don't worry about me,i'll be alright, you know how tough-minded and stubborn I am, you said so yourself often enough..
Well I'm off now, I shall probably move to Plymouth, see you later.."
And I walked out, locked the place up, and made a nice clean break of it ;) |
