I know this is off-topic, but it was mentioned by SithLord and George. I don't believe that the earth was created in 6 days. I think that some Christians' insistence that every word of the Bible be taken literally is counter-productive.
My kids are being raised Catholic (I'm divorced) and my son's Catechism book states that the story of Adam and Eve is an allegory. Very few major Christian denominations actually accept the Creation story as literal historical or scientific fact. So a vocal minority have created an adversarial relationship between spirituality and science. I don't believe they're mutually exclusive.
On-topic: The Greeks' religion died with the civilization, and the Romans' when Caesar was converted. Well, almost died (Christmas trees and yule logs, anyone?). Monotheism has been on the rise for 2000 years, and spans the globe, so it's unlikely to, as in the past, disappear with the defeat of one culture, or the decision of one man. But, hey, what do I know?
This is way too much thought for me right now. I'm going to a fun thread and talk about music, or what flavor ice cream is best.... |
