Did you smoke pot, listen to Steppenwolf and Sabbath, and worship Satan Debs? That's the only thing I got out of that.

Yeah it is a lot worse then than it is now but the government wants the good old days back and that brings a problem in mentality rather than in technology if you can see what I mean there. Plus the weapons of war are much more sophisticated and that includes the bugs... Microsoft is being subsidized to work with the government to spy through peoples computers by building backdoors. Anyone remembering Windows 2000 and the bugs with that can be empathetic there. Who really needs that old mentality back? It isn't going to save us from radical Islam. Hell they are already talking about putting cameras on every corner of the street in New York like they are doing in London.

It's a crying shame what happened to the Vietnam Vetrans. I don't forgive the ex-hippies for that or what they are doing to this country and the children now.

It seems the present Administration wants to execute the Hoover ways from the White House and 911 is there excuse to do it.

We already have them here in our city. Our downtown area is covered with them and no one cares. In our high crime area with gangs they have them every where .... no one minds except the criminals. If you have nothing to hide what's the big deal ... they aren't in your bedroom unless you set the camera up yourself.

They already track your consumption of goods when you go to the grocery store and use your rewards cards to get the lower advertised prices. They use the data in numerous ways. I don't care if they know the kinds of foods we eat by tracking them ... all it does is make them improve on the foods I don't buy .... I'm sure I'll hear about the evils of big brother for my thoughts but if you have nothing to hide why care? They'll get bored with my life and move on to someone worth while. I have the freedom to say what ever I want and don't care if big brother reads what I say .... as long as I still have the freedom to express myself verbally .... I realize my thoughts are not what many embrace but that's okay. If by giving up a little freedom for the big picture and keeping our country safe from radical terrorists ... I'm willing to give them access to my stuff. I have little hide.

It's a crying shame what happened to the Vietnam Vetrans. I don't forgive the ex-hippies for that or what they are doing to this country and the children now.
Many of the veterans came back and became hippies .... so don't blame the hippies for that fiasco ... it has relevance today still in the non-hippie generation. Do you know how long it takes to get seen at a VA clinic? Do you know how much substandard care they get? The VA hospital are crumbling around them. I worked at our VA hospital for a while (I'm a gypsy when it comes to jobs) and the docs were mostly residents coming thru a rotation. My Dad used VA hospitals and it wasn't a pleasant experience for him either.

It seems the present Administration wants to execute the Hoover ways from the White House and 911 is there excuse to do it.

I am not agreeing or disagreeing on this one but I can see why they want to do it. If things weren't so crazy right now in the world why would big brother care to watch our ordinary life? If it was peaceful and no one was trying to kill each other it wouldn't matter, they'd get bored and do something else. I've seen all the futuristic movie with the results of a big brother intervention but don't buy into it. Besides I'll be dead by then ....
I know I am not in the majority with my thoughts but I want a safer world for my future grandkids ....

Remember this was a time when the young were taking a lot of LSD and buying to the Timothy Leary who-ha. LSD, mescaline, PCP, angel dust, and others were hallucinogenics that were suppose to open up your mind, allegedly get you in touch with the spiritual world. Kids were being encouraged to take acid and see "god", to meet him in/on a different plane of existence.

There was quite a bit of the youth that were so disillusioned by our parents ways that they were joining communes, cults, and many bizarre other things. It was a time when people would go to huge rock festival, do drugs, get naked and party in front of thousands of people. It was a social revolt and they (the parents and conservatives) were really at a loss on what to do ... a quick fix to them was to modify things, make them more palatable to the youth. When kids were killed on college campus by police for demonstration, they were desparate for a quick fix. Most boomers gloss over their days of "turning on and tuning out".
Sounds like a good time. hehe

parts of it were memorable and other parts made you were glad that their weren't as many video cameras around or we would have been on youtube ...

And yes I listened to Steppenwolf, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, King Crimson and a whole bunch more .... actually tooled around the country with a couple of rockers ... a little of my misspent youth as a groupie .... now that is the most embarrassing thing I have ever admitted to on this forum ... I'm glad no one but Sis has ever seen my face .... lets keep this our little secret ... don't tell my parents ... mums the word!

I would have loved to have grown up back then. Or, rather, that culture with our technology. Maybe that's heaven!!!

Oh, the drug thing made me think of something I just read in The God Delusion. The supreme court protected a church in arizona's right to use hallucinogens because they said they believed it gave them a better understanding of god. They weren't even asked to prove it! If I ever get arrested for drugs or alcohol, I am so playing the 'it's my religion' card.

I don't think the drug/religion thing would work, you have to prove you belong to that religion .... the time back then may sound like more fun than what it was .... you had 3 TV channels, no computers, ugly cars. I know there are people that remember cars called Vega, Pinto, Gremlin or the Thing .... awful, horribly ugly cars. Tho gas was 26 cents a gallon when I first started driving .... whoa! that was a long time ago! Get my walker!

It was just different is all ... why not wish to go back to the 60's or 50's? Life was way more simpler in the 50's at least from what I read .....

That's why I said that culture and our technology.

And there's no reason I couldn't just make up a religion.

I'm with you Jaej. The 70s culture (the good bits anyway), the music from the 90s and the technology of the naughties (geez I hate that term!).

I'm not sure if any of you are from Australia but if you ever get the chance you should try and get your hands on a tv series titled 'John Safran vs God'. In each episode he explores a number of different religions/cults from a humurous (to some!) perspective. He actually does an episode based on the Peyote drug (it's a cactus I think?).

The best and most powerful episode was when he meets with an evangelist from America who 'specialises' in exorcisms. As you will appreciate from the earlier episodes John Safran is an extremely sceptical kind of guy with a real hard arse/no nonsense attitude to life, so when you start seeing him actually experience what appears to be the casting out of a devil it makes a huge impact. Very powerful stuff.

Interviews conducted with him after the series was completed suggest that he had no idea what was happening during the 'exorcism'. Some may see it as a genuine exorcism but to me (and I think to John as well) it showed how good some people really are within religious groups at mind control (particularly those with less mental fortitude than others).

Check it out if you get the chance, it well worth watching!

I think it would take a little more than saying I'm from the 'Church of the Holy Smokers" to convince the authorities ...

Yeah right you were there...

Danlo yeah that is some weird stuff. One time in church they showed us a video of these supposed 'exorcisms' or whatever and it is some weird stuff. I seriously think all those people had to have had extreme problems with some sort of psychosis. It's the only thing that makes any sense. Unless of course they were actually possesed by demons...right.
