How many people here know that the hebrew creation myth and flood story, well most of the book of genesis are pre-dated by the babylonian "enuma elish" .The fact that they were in captivity by the babylonians should be proof enuff that they were influenced by this myth. The babylonian enuma elish is predated by the sumerian myth by like 2,000 years i think, not 100% sure. Just though that would be something interesting to talk about and please correct me if i'm wrong on any of this it has been awile since I read anything about this.

Yes, long before the story of Noah there was Atrahasis, who turned his reed hut into a boat when warned of the impending flood. In that story, the gods were angry about the noise made by the newly-created humans.

The story probably travelled northwest from the Tigris-Euphrates delta (an area that did tend to flood) to the Canaanite lands (possibly the city of Ugarit) and eventually reached the ears of whoever compiled or composed the book of Genesis.
