| Web sites that disect the Bible I have been cruising around this site for the last couple days, it is pretty good. I appreciate a forum like this.
I was a hard core fundementalist Christian for 15 years, I mostly identified with the Anabaptist sect of Christianity. You may know of Anabaptists, some denomniations are Mennonite, Ahmish, Hutterian, and others. I didn't start out an anabaptist, I ended up one. That all changed about 8 years ago. Perhaps I lay out how later, right now I just want to give those of you who are Christians some food for thought and those of you who are decidely not Christian some resources for dealing with the Bible. I found the following links, extremely helpful.
Here are the links: Evil Bible Hashes out some key issues with essays that are fun to read and very pointed. May be offensive to the real hard hearted. Decidely atheistic in it's approach (with attitude).
Skeptics Annotated Bible Great resource for finding parts of the bible (and other religous texts) that conflict with the idea of a loving, merciful, all knowing God. Text of the book is presented, with icons and indicators for key problems in text.
Good luck with your search for the truth - if you seek it, you will find it - but it might change your mind in a radical way. |

| I think the problem with skeptics annotated bible is they take every thing in the literal sense and leave no room for liberal interpretation. Not everyone is a literalist and so for those who arent the site becomes non-effective in dissecting and inciting skepticism which is the intent of the site. |

| so i know this prolly isnt quite the right place to do this, but i didnt feel like starting a thread. my parents had a the brilliant idea that while we are up in the boundry waters enjoying the beauty of nature we should do a hardcore bible study. so i reluctantly agreed having been threatened on pain of death (ok not quite but still...)
i came across this verse in the bible and i was wtf? so any thoughts....
proverbs 16
4The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.
ps thats kjv for those who were wondering.
so what does that mean, that god made people to be wicked so he could punish them. all i get out of that is that some people are just plain damned (if you believe this) and so you might as well just do what you want

| That's a pretty calvinist philosophy, but then most conservatives are mostly calvinist.

Maybe the bible just reflects the contradictions of men.
That alone is exquisite. |
