| The doubts that I have are mostly about me - Do I have enough faith? Am I trusting God enough? Am I pleasing him? Am I being a good example to others? I don't doubt that God exists, or that the Bible is the word of God. |

| Without Doubt There is Complacency Without doubt there is no faith. If there is no doubt, there is no faith, the remainder would be complacency. Faith is essentially belief, it is the mental act of choosing one idea in favor of another. Belief is a certain confidence in an idea, a certain trust. The only good way to arrive at TRUE FAITH is after a careful balance and inspection of fundemental ideas presented and continual follow up.
We pick and choose what we believe in almost every aspect of our lives, hopefully using logic and good evidence to decide. For some reason when we are of a "FAITH" we suspend that critical thinking, and start making all sorts of assumptions and arrive at something that resembles FAITH but does not have the necessary components for true faith, it is nothing but a series of assumptions that hold up ideas THAT WE LIKE.
Doubt inspires a search for truth and evidence. Doubt is the underpinning of true faith. Doubt is a necessary component for building true confidence. Once we no longer doubt, we have rested from the necessary work of FAITH and become COMPLACENT - SELF SATISFIED, relaxed, vulnerable, and weak. |

| I like that comment.
Anthony Demello (S.J.) describes faith as the ability to follow the truth, no matter where it leads you and even when you don't know where it's leading you.
This is not the common view of faith, however. The popular western view of faith is that it counteracts doubt. People use it synonymously with belief. In this sense, it's valueless and crippling to the human population. It sets them up for conflicts between what is real and "what they want to be real."
So many words are tainted in today's society such as faith and atheist.

| I totally agree that these words are tainted. Nowadays, it seems faith means unflinching belief and blind trust. |

| Well, sorry to break it to you, but that isn't really Christian. Quote:

Great testimony, by the way. I think that even tops faith's. Quote:

| Anyone who seeks to become like me wouldn't be a Christian. Rather, they should seek to become like Christ. I am not righteous, and am not deserving of the position, nor anything else God has given me.
Jaej, your last post is true, not believing in the Bible isn't Christian. Basicly you say that Christ' word is a lie. You aren't a Christian because you say you are, it isn't a word, which it is much mistaken as. You said, "I dont base my life on a book that was not even written by God himself or jesus" So when Jesus said to read and obey the gospel, and that it's words are true and trustworthy, you are saying they aren't. "i dont live my life by a belief i live the way i want to" That usn't exactly Christian either.
To be born again takes more than saying you are Christian. Being born again, is dying to the world spiritualy. You die to the world, and are born again in Christ. You are bapised with the holy spirit and nothing can take you away from your faith in Christ. I am not judgeing you, just trying to explain to you what Jesus had told us what it is to be born again, and what it means to be a true Christian.
I try to be like Christ as I have been commanded to do, but no one should wish to be like me. They too should try to be like Christ, because He is perfect and without sin, and He is the Son of God. I am only human, and I am not perfect, and do sin. So try to be like Christ in every way, and have faith in Him and God's word, and you are born again. When you are baptised by the Holy Spirit, you will know it. You will feel much much different, I assure you. |
